Log into the router and click on the wireless tab. Turn off the wi-fi and it apply.

Check parental controls in your router admin.   The MI424WR Rev.I allows you to disable internet access on a schedule.

from user experience, the router parental controls affects the speed of the connection, by as much as 50%.

Try open dns or similar parental control software.  Open dns is nice and it can be used remotely and controlled remotely and it's free.

Verizon provides mcafee family protection software for free, and you can use that too.   you just download it from their site,  www.verizon.com/freetools

What does parental controls have to do with the OP's issue?

Same question for the McAfee plug.  AV Comparitives has better free AVs so why not promote them?

I only recommend those for experienced users.  Ones that will know what to do when a virus sneaks through.    .  I use free versions myself but if the person doesn't want to have to pay someone to fix their pc then the pay options are what they need.   Free options don't offer over the phone or remote support.

This particular subject isn't about virus' though

The op's statement 'I'd like to control my house holds internet usage' that is almost exactly what parental controls were designed for.
