Just reformatted my desktop. Won't connect.

Hi,

I have fios. I connect to my modem (which has a built in wireless router) wirelessly with my laptop. I have a hard ethernet connection between my desktop (running XP) and the modem/router.

Before now, everything was fine. However, I was forced to reformat my desktop. Now my desktop will not access the internet. The tech who set everything up did not leave any discs or software. Nor do I know how he set up my connection.

Thoughts on how I can get my desktop back online?

Sounds as if the drivers for you PC were not installed...you would need to look for you manufacture's CD's or on their website.  You are looking for NETWORK or Ethernet card drivers.

Nothing FiOS is going to be able to do to get you online till you get the drivers installed on your computer.

First of all, you do not need any extra software, from Verizon or anywhere else, to connect.  

As Charles said you may just be missing a device driver for your network adapter. Go to:

Start ==> Control Panel ==> System ==> Hardware tab ==> Device Manager button

and see if any devices, specifically network adapters, have any question marks. If so, you need to fix that before you will be able to connect.

If no problems there, go to Control Panel and go through the Network Setup Wizard dialog and see if that gets you connected. If not, tell us what happened.

When you reloaded your Desktop did you reinstall Windows XPor Vista ?
