I need to move my MI424 Rev i router. It's now connected to the ONT with maybe 8 ft of coax and no splitters. I need to add at least 50 ft of RG6 and move it. However, whenever I add more than about 10 ft, I lose the internet connection. Neither the WAN Coax or WAN Ethernet lights will come on. But if I use only a short 6 ft length, it does reconnect and works fine.
Has anybody experienced this? I'm thinking the router must be defective, but maybe I'm missing something. I know I could switch to a CAT5 connection to the ONT, but I'd prefer using the RG6 since I already have spare coax wired in place. I'd also like to be sure there's no problem with the router's coax connection. Thanks a lot.

My guess would be that either the connector is not on correctly or the coax itself is no good. Do you have a STB you can test the coax on?

Yes, that's a good thought. But I've tried several different cables including a brand new one I bought yesterday. And just to be sure, I just now tested the new one from my satelite receiver to one of my tv's & it works perfectly.

This sounds odd to me. I think the long length of coax could be the reason. Maybe a signal amplifier or splitter on the line would help?
I have coax coming from the ont going up to my attic to a splitter then there's about 45-50 feet of coax going to my 2nd bedroom where my router is then another 5 feet of coax to the router from the wall outlet and I see no issues at all.
Could be a bad router, but sounds like the signal after so much length is degrading.

Dont waist your time testing with a cable box. Router uses different frequencies than broadcast. It can work with a cable box and not the router.

Can you see how the coax is run from the ONT? Are there any barrels, splitters, amplifiers etc? If so what do they say on them?

The ONT is mounted outside. The coax passes through a hole in my cinder block basement wall along with my satellite coax. It runs about 4 ft to the router. It's just a cable- no splitters, amplifiers, or unions. I came here first, but I guess I need to contact Verizon. Looks to me like the router, or less likely, the ONT has a defective transmitter or receiver. I'll update the thread when this is resolved. Thanks all.

Does anyone know what is the length of RG6 without any splitters that Verizon guarantees will work? I've done some more careful tests with 3 different lengths of cables and combining them with unions. My earlier length estimtes were low. I've now established that the router will connect with a set of cables that total 40 ft, but it.will NOT connect with a set that totals 53 ft.

Is your ONT within 12 inches of your electrical meter? The electrical companies are now using meters read with wifi that are causing interference with the MOCA transmitter in the ONT.
