Need help changing wireless router from wep to wpa2

I'm hoping someone can help me here. I"m trying to change my wireless routers security from wep to wpa2-psk. I have the 9100EM Router. I went to the http://192.168.1.1 address to enter my name and password and its not working.

I entered the same name and password that connects me to the internet. I have even tried the original user name before I changed it to a new one and that didn't work. For the heck of it even tried admin and my password. Nothing.

Am I doing somehting wrong?

if I can get myself logged in I'm sure I can figure the rest out.

Thought I would post an update. I decided to reset the router and was able to login to the router settings. Changed over to wpa, changed my login information etc. and saved everything. One thing I noticed though is when I tried to log back into the router with my new information it wouldn't let me. Sounds like a bug on Verizon's end. If I ever want to change something again I'll have to reset the router again.

You can try entering "password" (no quotes) in the password box, with admin as user.

If all else fails, you can perform a hardware reset.

Hold the reset button in for a few seconds then release -- the button is on the back next to the USB connector.

After it reboots, you can set it up from scratch with the user name and password desired.  The user name and password for the modem/router itself can be different than the one you login to Verizon with -- the Verizon user name/password go in a different section of the router's menus (PPPoE Protocol); you'll have to reenter this info as well if you do a hard reset.

As for setting up WPA, that's explained in the manual:  http://onlinehelp.verizon.net/consumer/bin/pdf/Vz9100EM_user_guide.pdf

Try "admin" and the serial number on your router.

Thanks for the info. I've tried everything so looks like I will have to do a reset. I really wanted to avoid it as I dont want to have to re-do settings, etc. I'm really more worried about resetting and still not being able to get in. I've read some people still couldn't get in even after a reset. I might just leave it alone. I think I have to leave it at wep anyways because I have a security camera dvr hooked up to the net. I dont think it will work if I switch to wpa.

Could be a bug, or the password to the router is being reset after you change the password to that of your serial number. After setting your password, close your web browser, and re-visit the router to ensure the password you placed was set. I'd imagine from that point, it will be smooth sailing.

Hmm....makes me wonder if "In Home Agent" would have been a better way to go?

IHA does help to automate the process if you happen to have it installed...
