Not happy with new quantum router

Been installed for 2 days now, also increase my service from 50 to 75. Getting slow speeds on both wire and wireless connections. Gets extremely slow at times. Chatted with tech support but they were unable to help, anyone have ideas before I return it.

If you're getting slow speeds on wired, it's not the router.

I have one and get 60/60 on both wired and wireless across many different devices.

Can you say how you're testing speed?

If you're using an "app," that implies a handheld device that is on WiFi.

What *exactly* are you using for wired tests?

When wired in I would try either http://cloud.testmy.net/ or Verizon's http://speedtest.verizon.com/ site to act as a proof. If either one of these tests can pick up on your speed, then we'll be getting somewhere.

If you're on a laptop, please make sure the machine is not set to "Energy Saver" or "Power Saver" mode. These often slow down the CPU which can cause your bottleneck.

Just to be clear, you're talking to other customers here.  We know nothing about your problem other than what you tell us.  You haven't told us much.  I'd be happy to try and help you, but you really need to tell us a lot more about your Verizon service, networking setup, computer and operating system.

For example, I have 50/50 service from Verizon as part of a triple play, which means I really get 60/60. I have a two Windows7 PCs directly connected to the Quantum router using a GigE Ethernet cables that I use for most tests.  The router is connected to my ONT (a Tellabs BPON model) via MoCA (i.e. coax).  I uses OpenDNS, set in the router.  I routinely get speed measurements of 60/60 from sites like http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ and http://my.verizon.com/services/speedtest/.  I routinely see these speeds when downloading and uploading large files to sites with fast connections.

Speedtest.net gives different results, which is why I use other speed measuring sites and file transfers to well connected sites.  I have direct experience with both my old Actiontec Rev I and my new Quantum router that convinces me they are fully capable of handling 60Mbps transfers from a variety of devices connected to my LAN.

So, I will ask you one last time to share some details about your problem.  Otherwise, I will wish you a "Happy New Year" and move on.

If your wired speeds are not up to contract have them roll a truck.

FIOS will insist on using their speedtest http://speedtest.verizon.com/ , though I have found it to be pretty comparable to speedtest.net.

Just to be safe you could try a different ethernet cable and PC (if you have another), though if you got contracted speeds before, what changed is most likely the cause.  Most likely a bad Quantum router or something that was done during the install.

I am taking your advice, I spent 2 hours on the phone yesterday with tech, they are sending a truck Saturday.
