Obselete Router

When I moved a few years ago, I left behind a router from Verizon because they didn’t need or want it back at that time.  I recently returned some tv boxes and they said I never returned that old router that they don’t use anymore.  How can I clear this off my account so it does not cause an issue down the road?  I’ve even tried paying to get it off and I’ve talked to multiple agents and none have an answer.  Yes I’ve even tried to get the old router back but it’s gone.
