Should be getting 35/35, actually getting 45/3

I'm new to Fios & I'm not here to bash it at all. I LOVE it and I'm sure this is an easy fix but I need help. Ran the in home agent optimization (3 or 4 times) and it did nothing. Verizon speed test, speedtest.net, & speakeasy all confirm this. I'm hard wired on a brand new computer (literally bought it last night) with Windows 7. I even shut all firewalls down to make sure this was not an issue. I've read that maybe I have to shut down the ONT & unplug the battery backup to square the issue away? Has this worked for anyone else or does anyone else have a similar issue?

Be very careful about analyzing speed test results with Windows 7 and Vista®. Both dynamically expand AND contract the buffer pool, and the default buffers are nowhere near adequate for 35/35 service. You may have to run the test several times before Windows 7 allocates enough buffers to fully utilize the service you have.

My other suggestion is that your run the ndt.anl.gov speed test. After the test, click on the statistics tab, and see what portion of the time you are sender (as opposed to network) limited. Then click on the more detail tab. Down at the bottom is more information about what is limiting your performance.

You may have to run the test several times before Windows 7 has allocated adequate buffer space for the connection speed you have.

It is possible that you have been improperly provisioned for service, but there is no 35/5 tier of service, so I don't think it is likely.

As I'm at work right now I will definitely try this when I get home. Is there a way to manually allocate enough buffers for the service, or is running numerous speedtests the only way to go?

I hope this is the issue but I'M doubtful. I should have stated that I had the same results on my old computer running XP. Sorry.

I'll post the results later though. Any other ideas if it's not the case?

Thank you much.

Hi,

the speed test is not really reliable,it is a simple equation the speed that you are leasing minus the resources, programs

or application that you are running in your computer, I suggest to you contact tech support via chat and request  "Break the DHCP lease" in your circuit, Also you can ask to "re-boot the ONT(gray box) your service will born again

Good Luck!

ThunderStump,

Before you go through all the trouble of trying to correct it. First determine if you even need the upload speed. Most people do not.

Do you do any P2P networking?

Do you host any FTP's or any other file sharing with outside sources?

Do you have to send large files to other locations (for work or pleasure, doesnt matter)?

If the answer to all these are no, then I wouldnt bother putting any effort into it. 3Mb up is more than you need for things like email or internet gaming. The download speed is what most people need and your download speed is superb. So it may not even be worth the effort of trying to correct.

believe it or not, but I have had windows 7 machines that could not get proper speeds until optimized.  (sometimes the VZ one is not enough,  I like the one from Speedguide.net.  then follow that link and pay special attention to the instructions for windows 7 users.

Wow!

If I bought a Ducati, that doesn't magically raise the speed limit on public roads. I'd still pretty much insist it be capable of exceeding 150 MPH. That's what I paid for.

I was pointing out that 99% of the people who use internet, do not even use a fraction of the upload speed. that they have. As such, with the exception of running a speedtest, most would not even know there was a problem because nothing that they are doing will be affected.

It can be a lot of work to try and hunt down a problem like this. And if you are not going to see any benefit for the work, why take the time out of the day that can be used for more enjoyable pursuits.

And as for your Ducati example. How do you know it can do 150 MPH. You cant check it. There is no where you can do that (legally in your state of mind). What if it can only do 140MPH, are you going to spend time and money to try and get that 10MPH back? Why, you'll never use it, and in the speeds that you do use the bike it would make no difference what-so-ever, so why put forth the effort.

I just wanted to point out that as long as you are not seeing any symptoms, and the internet does everything you want to do. Then why take time out of your busy day to fix something that will not change how it works for you.

And I didnt say not to do it, and if you had read the post you would know this if you had read the post. I said it MAY not be worth the effort. If you want to spend your time working on an issue like this, and you enjoy it. Go for it. Whatever makes you happy. I was just giving another POV on this, in case the OP didnt realize it or think of it. Steps for correcting the problem had already been covered very well. It was just another thought on the subject.

Well a tech came out today. There was a problem piece of cable he replaced. He's getting 35/35 on his laptop from speedtest.net, but I'm still only getting about 15 up. Still getting low 40's down. I do upload a lot of video and pictures so it is pretty annoying I'm having this problem. I tried the optimizer at speedguide.net like you suggested, but no improvement. Any other ideas. You get a Kudos for that by the way 😉
