Slow fios upload speeds in northern NJ

I have 50/50 internet but the upload speed is extremely slow.  Download speeds are usually somewhere between 50-60 mbps any time during the day.  Upload speeds are around 30 mbps during the mornings and in the evenings it gets as low as 5 mbps.

They replaced the box outside, inside, and also the modem...Still the same thing. The upload speed seems very consistent everyday being faster in the morning and slowing down in the evenings.

Is the service in my area oversold?  The only time I got 50 mbps upload speeds was on new years day(morning).

Verizon shouldn't advertise that upload speeds is the same as download.

There are many variables that can affect transfer speeds.  Can you provide details on how you are measuring upload speed?  Stuff like what device, how it connects to the router, router model and measurement server will be good to get started.

Good Luck.

Been through this many times.. the problem isnt at my house.

I'm on wired pc testing using my.verizon.com and also speedtest.net.

Speed is consistently slow in the evenings during high traffic times, certianly nothing in my house has changed from morning till evening.

Well, then I'm not sure what you expect to get from posting here.  In case you didn't notice, you're talking to peers here.  There are a bunch of network savvy folks here, but we can't help you if you don't give us details.  We only know what you tell us, nothing more.  if you're convinced the problem is in Verizon's network, then there is nothing we other users can do for you.

I suggest you try some large file transfers as well.  Speedtest sites are very useful tools, but sometimes real world testing is important too.  Some quick tests could be uploading movies to FaceBook or YouTube.  If you have other well connected servers you can use, try them too.

Remember that the Internet is ultimately a shared medium, regardless of what Verizon's marketing department says.  If you're testing through links that are loaded, then speed will drop.  Using other servers and test sites will help determine if some links are busier than others.

Enjoy.

Just want to know if other people have the same issues in the area and what their speed tests show.

Thats something I can take to verizon...

If anyone had issues like this solved by verizon, please let me know what the solution was.

Edit: talked to a supervisor and he knows of similar issues.  he will have someone look at the local lines outside my house and around the neighborhood, maybe rebuild ciruits.  He agreed that because slowness occured during a specific time of day that it was most likley not a problem inside my house.

received a phone call from verizon today which i didn't answer so it can be recorded and left on my voicemail, verizon officially took blame for what seemed like a very vague statement which the supervisor was very uneducated and seemed to be talking in a very nervous/unsure tone on, i'm not a psychology major or anything like that but i can tell when someone isn't exactly sure what he's informing me of . he stated there was network congestion at the central office and they're working on adding more capacity and to please remain patient until then (unconfirmed ETA)

i will be using that voicemail to my advantage on getting my bill 0'd out every month until the issue is resolved.

I advise you do the same if you're experiencing the same issues.

I have this same exact issue and I am in California, with a similar vague voicemail from a supervisor.

I'm in Bergen NJ, and I'm having the same problem ( I'm on FIOS 50/50 ).

Download speed is consistently 55+Mbps, and upload is less then 5Mbps.

I have a ASUS RT-AC68U router, and my main PC is directly connected to the router.

The slow upload speeds is on all my devices wired and wireless.  In the past I was getting 50+Mbps upload speeds on the same PC.

A week ago, I had an online chat with Verizon support, and they supposedly did a link test and said nothing was wrong, and since I'm not using their router, they couldn't troubleshoot any further.

I also contacted ASUS support, and after doing firmware upgrades and factory reset, the problem persists.

I got my hands on a netgear router, and it's experiencing the same upload speed problem, and this leads me to believe it's a verizon problem.

I was ready to RMA the ASUS router, but after having the same problem on the netgear, I'm leaning towards it being a Verizon FIOS problem.

I'm going to try Verizon support again to see if they can be more help, now that the same problem exists on two different routers.
