Slow wireless on 75 Mbps/35 Mbps plan with a new HS Verizon Router

I have the 75 Mbps/35 Mbps plan with a new HS Verizon Router.

During wired tests I do get the 75 Mbps/35 Mbps, but on wireless I only get about 25 Mbps/25 Mbps.

I understand there is some drop with wireless, but I wasn't expecting to loose some 50 Mbps.

What's the point of the faster speed and new modem/router, if I can't stream to my wireless devices any faster than 25 Mbps. I am still CONSTANTLY buffering.

Am I doing something wrong?

Can I change something, or should I just go back and pay for what I can push wirelessly?

Any help is welcome.

I have a few reservations about the ActionTec router as well. It's the red router with the two antennas, right? It's a piece of crap when it comes to Wireless. You are better off buying a new router from some other manufacturer like Belkin, Asus, Netgear, etc. Unlike normal internet connections, the Verizon router cannot be removed because it connects to the internet via MoCA.

Use this guide if you plan on getting another router:

"well that's just great", i just ordered the new advanced router & 75/35 speed. this is rediculous, i upgraded to the 50/25 last year & saw no improvement plus they sent me a new router with wireless n. now i hear this from you & i don't even know why i did this. if i have any problems i'm canceling the 75/35 & sending back the router. if you can only use verizons routers then how can you buy a different brand. tia for any help.

25Mbps sounds like you're stuck with a Wireless G connection for some reason, or you otherwise are stuck with a bad 1x1 Wireless N link.

Make sure you are using Wireless N performance mode on the new router, your computer has a Wireless N card, your router is running in a clean channel, AND you are using ONLY the WPA2-AES encryption option. Not using any one of these will decrease speeds.

I have tried both compatibility mode and Wireless N performance mode on the new router.

I have tried Automatic channel and various channels, including 6 and 11.

I am using the WPA2-AES encryption option.

Still no wireless speed change.  It never gets above 25 Mbps.  All streaming devices in the house, TV's etc constantly buffer.

Make sure your wireless adapter can handle the faster speeds. I have no issues pulling in high speeds on my end. Download a free program called inSSIDer which can show you the networks in the area and if any or all are to congested. Even by switching channels, if there's to much going on around you, you won't get faster speeds.

The router isnt junk. It works fine for most people. Unless you need a dual band router it should work for you. I have the 50/25 plan and have no issues pulling in those speeds on wireless. You have to have the router in performance mode to get good results, have it on the least congested channel in your neighborhood (inSSIDER is great for helping with this), only on wpa2 and your wireless adapter in your computer must be able to handle the higher speeds.
