Verizon MI424WR Router: wired connections fail intermittently, wireless connections continue working

I have been noticing this problem recently where my wired connections stop working on both my computers with wired connections.

However, my wireless connections and my Verizon phone keep working. In this case my printer connected to router via a wired network, stops being accessible from wireless devices. This leads me top believe that the problem is with teh router and not any specific computer.

I can reset the router and this fixes the problem for a short while (a few minutes) and then the problem comes back. On the computer with wired connection not working if I add a wireless adapter via USB then that computers network starts working again.

Both my computers are running Fedora 20 Linux.

Has any one else seen this problem? Are there any solutions?

In case I need to get a new router from Verizon, what are the best router Verizon has to offer at present?

Thanks.

Make sure you disable your wireless card when you wired into your router, otherwise your computer will constantly be flipping back and forth between the wire and wirelessly.

This looks like the classic IGMP proxy problem that these routers have had for a long time.  It used to be fixed by accessing a hidden page on the router using these steps:

  1. Open http://192/168.1.1 to login to your router using your current browser.  Use a new window or tab.
  2. Open http://192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=900 in a new window or tab now that you've logged into the router.
  3. Disable IGMP proxy

However I no longer have the IGMP proxy control on my router.  It looks like a recent firmware update must have changed.  I'm running 4.21.10.2.  If you have an older version, the above steps might work.

Does anyone else know what happened to the IGMP proxy controls?

Is the IGMP option under Advanced > Routing what you are looking for?

Nope.  I'm looking for the IGMP Proxy control.  It used to be available on the router from the advanced pages.  Then, a firmware update moved it to a hidden page that could be accessed if you knew the URL.  That's the link I posted.  Now, it appears to be completely gone.

When the IGMP Proxy was enabled, may services had trouble going between the wired and wireless networks.  iTunes Home Sharing is one such service that didn't work when the proxy was enabled.  Turning it off fixed it.   I also had problems with a wireless printer that went away with the proxy turned off.

So, I'm curious what happened to the IGMP Proxy controls.  Maybe they fixed the problem and we don't need it anymore, or they completely eliminated the ability for users to control it.

Thanks,
