WHEN will you FIX the UPLOAD SPEED!

For two months, I have contacted verizon to fix the upload speed. All they can do is tell me it's a problem with my computer, or my computer is not optimized, or it's my browser, or it's a problem with my router, or it's a problem with the ethernet cable, or it's a problem with the ONT.  Everything has been replaced. Two technicians arrived to 'fix' the problem, who both said it's not a problem in my house, it's something between my house and the central office, or the central office itself. Likely PON card related.

Well, the first technician was ready to call the central office when the speed just decided to fix itself at the most inopportune time so calling would have been pointless. the second technician wanted nothing to do with contacting the central office to fix the PON card or do anything. He insisted that i will "Never get the advertised speeds" and kept questioning me as to why I needed fast upload speed, and what i was uploading. It does not matter what I'm using it for or why I need it. The issue is that I'm paying for 50/50 service, and the upload being received, is all over the place, all throughout the day and night. Sometimes it's 1 Mbps. Sometimes it's 63 Mbps. Sometimes it's 45 Mbps. Sometimes it's 23 Mbps. It's COMPLETELY random. You can do a speedtest at speedtest.verizon.net and receive 15Mbps upload, and then go and do another speed test right after it and get 55. It's totally inconsistent, and Verizon will not fix it.

What does it take to get through to someone who knows more than to tell me to reboot my router?

My contract is up, and even though Bright House's upload speeds are nothing like Verizon's, at least they give you the ADVERTISED speeds. Not less.

I am hardwired into the router. I am using the 'latest and greatest' Fios G1100 router. I am not using wireless. I do not have multiple devices trying to use the internet while I am testing speed. Yes, it happens on any device/computer in the house that I test on. Yes, it happens if I connect my computer directly to the ONT. But the 'live chat technicians' don't seem to understand that sending me a new router is not going to do anything because #1 i have their newest router that was just replaced last month. #2 the problem happens without ANY router #3 it happened with the last router we had. Yes, it happens on all browsers. Yes, my computer has run the fios speed optimizer, even though the MTU is incorrect (1492, which should be 1500 since we are on DHCP. verizon doesn't care apparently and insists 1492 is correct).

The last time the upload speed was normal was December 2014.

First keep the ONT away from any Wireless Devices including Router and Phone!!!You can cover ONT with Aluminum Foil paper to minimize any Radio interference from outside which can also decrease your speed and last keep calling them until Verizon fix your problem!!!You are paying for the speed or Bandwidth so you should get the service that you are paying for it!

Do you know of an actual case where covering an ONT with aluminum foil improved performace?

My ONT is located in our garage, but as an experiement I place several RF generating devices right next to it.  A microwave oven; cordless phone; cellular phone; VHF and UHF walkie-talkies, and a dual band wifi router.  None of those made any difference in my speeds at all.

I am skeptical that advice can ever make a difference.   I'd be interested to learn of a specific sitution where it actually helped.

It sounds more like the OP's problem is outside of their house and thus it will indeed be up to Verizon to fix the problem.

Fun Fact: Some of the very early model ONTs had an issue where they would pick up directional radio broadcasts and they would be audible on the phone line. It was just the one model, though, and they've probably all been replaced by now. (There was a big push to replace them all once Verizon figured out what was causing the issue.)

No idea whether aluminium foil would have helped or not.

My guess, somegirl, is that with those old model ONTs the radio broadcast signals were being fed into the ONT via coax or Ethernet cable attached to the box, the wires acting as antennas. 

But hey...if wrapping their ONT with foil actually helps anyone, I'm the last to argue with success.  I'm just skeptical foil will help.

STILL not fixed.

I love how verizon's speed test doesn't care that the speed was barely 4-8 Mbps for 90% of the speed test, then jumped up to 24Mbps near the end, and it doesn't even average out the results, just shows the highest speed it got during the test. What a joke.
