How can I download dvr recordings to my computer?

There are 3 ways (listed in order of decreasing resolution):

  1. Via firewire as long as copy flag on the original allows copying.
  2. With a video capture card that can receive the analog output (component, S-Video, composite) signal.
  3. An RF tuner hooked to the RF ouptput of the DVR.

All methods would require real time playback of the program making the DVR not useable for watching live.  There is no direct transfer (like a file copy).
