Forget MSG HD, I can't even get MSG SD!

I am currently a DirecTV subscriber but have FiOS Internet. With the disgusting DirecTV/Versus debacle I was hellbent on dropping DirecTV and adding TV to my FiOS. Until I found out that MSG is not available, nor are any of the other MSG channels. Every other TV provider will give me MSG. My town is in Cablevision country in Ocean County, NJ, the town just 1 mile away from me is in the Comcast area and can get MSG. So this means that from Ocean County south, if you're a Devils fan and you have FiOS, you can't watch the games unless you go with another provider such as cable or satellite. I can't even get the Devils or Rangers games on NHL Gamecenter because even the NHL says i'm in the MSG region, so it's blacked out. So my choice is to stick with DirecTV and miss the occasional game thats broadcast on Versus, go with Cablevision which sucks, or go with FiOS where I can watch the occasional Versus game but can't watch any of the other games because the majority of Devils and Rangers games are on MSG or MSG+.

I swear, I am so sick of this crap.

Ok, so here's the kicker.... I called Verizon to ask about NHL Center Ice to find out if Rangers or Devils games will be blacked out in my area, and yes, the games will be blacked out because they are available on a Regional Sports Network, but Verizon says i'm out of the MSG region, but the games are blacked out because they are available on a Regional Sports Network, MSG.

Ok I guess go to Cablevision, pr back to DIRECTV, you would get MSG HD / SD and MSG + Networks. Dish Network only has MSG SD, MSG + SD, no HD networks. FIOS in your area would carry CSN Philadelphia I guess. Did you put your zip code to see the actual lineup in the FIOS Area where you are ? I have Time Warner Cable in Staten Island , well the reason FIOS doesnt have MSG HD / + HD , and Channel 1 ( FIOS 1 ) yet in NYC . WHo knows if MSG HD will even land on Verizon and the FCC only has 19 days left for a decision. TWC has all NY RSN HD , and a NY 1 , NYC News Channel , with Statenn Island Info and News ,similar to News 12 and The Comcast Network.

That really stinks. DirecTV and Dish carry regional sports nets based on zip code, and Verizon (and cable) carry them based on counties and system boundaries. Unfortunately, iNDemand blacks out games based on zip code, which leaves you with no way to see your team. I would have to find a different video provider.

My zip code is in Ocean County, the North/South boundary is the line between Ocean County and Monmouth County, Ocean County being considered south and Monmouth County being considered north, so the only RSN's available to me are Comcast SportsNet, and there is two of them, neither of which have anything on there i'm interested in.

The thing that really gets me the most is the complete reluctance by the Verizon associates to assist you in any way whatsoever. I actually had a supervisor say to me (after waiting an hour on the phone for her) "Oh well, order Cablevision," and she said it with unbelievable disdain. That was the answer I got when I questioned why it is that Verizon says i'm out of the MSG area, but Center Ice says i'm in the MSG area and why every other provider can provide MSG in not only my area but also all of South Jersey.

Quite Interesting that you are within the MSG Area to be blacked out on Center ice, but not north or central enough to see the NY RSN. Maybe Verizon should reverse its course on this one, or contact Center ice about it and tell them your situation. This has to be fixed somewhere and somehow. if you are out of the RSN Area , then you should get the Center Ice, let the NHL know , maybe they can tweak it for you or fix it all together. Maybe Verizon should regroup how its channels are .

I guess You have no choice but to go to Comcast or Cablevision, whichever is in your area. In the end if FIOS doesnt get MSG HD Networks /MSG + HD , then going to Comcast or CV would be your best option. At least with one , you get all NY RSN HD, Triple Play, Local News , either News 12, or TCN, and will have Mobile Voice and Data , with One Bill this coming year , thats why I am with Time Warner Cable as of now, but things could change for me as well in 2010. On your FIOS , do you get the FIOS 1 Channel where you live, if you do how is it ?
