I would love to have verizon Fios come out with an APP that you can watch live TV guide channels on any devices.
There are several issues:
1) whether we like it or not, cable providers make part of their profit from renting equipment. I don't think any provider has an a line of all OS apps for free.
2) Fairly high cost involved with having apps for windows, android, iOS, roku, Chromecast, ps4, etc. Not only development but support. Both customer and providing updates every time there is an OS change.
3) Some of their contracts with providers don't allow anything other than mobile apps. Its protection from piracy.
