Verizon Not Competitive with Comcast

Verizon wants people to switch to them, however they do not offer the same services as Comcast.

We have "Limited Basic" TV here which is only about $11.00 a month from Comcast and it's all we need. Yet Verizon doesn't offer this.

We would like internet service (have DSL now) TV and just basic phone service but Verizon wants to shove you all three with to much you don't need.

How is that being competitive??  Ken

I think you should probably be comparing apples to apples ... what Verizon offers in their triple play should be compared to Comcast's triple play -- same offering for same offering.    YMMV, but as I have a substantial TV package and Internet, my costs with Verizon ended up being 20% less than with Comcast for faster internet and more channels.   Certainly people on the low end of the services curve will likely find situations where Verizon is more comptitive and where other providers are more competitive.

I think you'll find both providers get very competitive when you add bundled services -- and that those bundled services aren't targeted at the "minimum" possible service levels.

Although not advertised, Verizon does offer a basic option for $12.99 a month.  Yes they push their triple plays but there are "ala carte" phone TV and Internet options.

Here in NJ-

COMCAST: Less than 40 HD channels (and no HDNet Movies)

VERIZON:  Over 100 HD channels for much less per month than Comcast.   In fact, the combioned bill for phone/Net/TV is less than I was paying Comcast for just TV and (slower) Net.

The OP says he just wants basic cable. Now like what was said above, Verizon does have it, just not advertised.

But you also need to remember, people that get the basic ($13) cable service, do not make money for the provider. Now while Comcast and Verizon do offer that low price system. They really are not interested in these customers (from a business standpoint). They do not make any money off them. They focus on the people that want all the cable channels. This is where the money is and this is where all the companies are competitive. With a few exceptions, Verizon is very competitive in the bundle areas where most people are interested in.
