Are You Happy with your FIOS?

I am just curious if you are satisfied or happy with the FIOS TV. If you changed from cable, satellite, or something else, would you do it again? I would like to get rid of Comcast and package FIOS TV with my current Verizon DSL and phone, but I have a big concern. I did not realize how much of the FIOS system relies on the router and network system. This worries me because I have a hard enough time trying to figure out my current set up. For instance, I am pulling my hair out trying to set up and get a print server to work on two Ethernet and one wireless computer. I cannot imagine how much more difficult it is going to be with having to worry about the control of the TV also. Anyway, I would just love to hear what everyone thinks of FIOS TV. Thanks for your opinion!

Everything for the TV is setup by the install technician. So you will not have to worry about that.

How is your print server setup, where do you have the printer connected to, a PC, or a router with a print server connect point? How are you trying to access the printer?

Oh and yeah I just changed on about a month ago and very happy with the service, phone tech support sucks, but just come here for help. Call at last resort. I do here the new 1.6 image is not as good as the old firmware version of the STB, but I never saw that and the picture to me is great. But a new image is coming out in the next month or so that is going to make the image better from what we are told.

I switched from Comcast (TV and internet) two weeks ago.  The recent price increase from Comcast, plus their poor quality of HD drove me away.  I am a big hockey fan, so the NHL Center Ice package was a must for me.  When Verizon began offering that, my decision was made.

After two weeks, my impression of Fios is very good.  The HD picture quality is great.  Also, many more HD offerings than Comcast.  I would say I watch 80% of TV in HD, so this is a big plus for Fios.  Now, the SD picture on Fios is poor at the moment.  However, word is that this will be fixed with the latest upgrade and I'm willing to accept that.  I've heard from others that the SD on Fios was impressive prior to the downgrade - I'm looking forward to seeing that.  One other thing that is overlooked - the sound on Fios is great, a noticeable difference from Comcast.  If you have a home theater setup, you are going to enjoy this sound.

The features are very similar to Comcast.  Though some here complain about the guide, I actually like it.  I have had no problems, and find it easy to use.  My one major problem at the moment is the Multi-Room DVR.  I have gotten the "HUB" error message when watching a recording in my bedroom.  However, this is also being addressed by Verizon and I'm just going to be patient on this one.  Video on Demand is not as good as it was with Comcast - no free movies, and some other things missing that Comcast had.  But, with a DVR we don't use VOD as much - just record what you want to see.  And, it appears Verizon is always adding new content to VOD.

So, long story short, I would switch to Fios again in a heartbeat.  Once the SD picture is improved, and the MR-DVR bug is fixed, it will be perfect in my opinion.  I was truly fed up with Comcast, and now have faith in my TV/internet provider again.

Thank you for the replies! Very helpful information. I was all set to make the switch until I realized how technical the set up is. If it is all handled by the techs during installation, that is great, but if I have to do anything with it, that is bad news. I am not too sharp when it comes to these things. It sounds like the HD will be great, which is a huge plus for me. The other big plus is the cheaper price when bundled with everything else. I have just had it with Comcast. So I think I will go ahead and make the change. Thanks again for your time and opinions!

fios is great.  but customer service is pitiful.  I tried to upgrade to the extreme package last month with no success.  they said there was a problem with the account and the problem would be fixed in 48 hours.  well, three weeks later they still can't figure out how to fix my account.

Cat, you've got no worries. In most cases the installers will answer any of your questions and I've found them to be extremely helpful. They all seem to be proud of the work they're doing and extremely professional. If you're happy with everything else, adding TV is almost effortless. Go for it and good luck!

The service itself is great beyond great, fantastic!

The help pitiful as described.

The equipment less than optimal

If they ever get it all together it will rule the market

Switched from Comcast a few weeks ago. Very happy now with my well over 100 pristine HD channels compared with Comcast's 25 compressed ones. The guide has many more features but lacks a couple that Comcast's had.
