Update to my original start of this thread. I feel it only fitting that I update everyone.

In regards to Tivo. I tested the new TiVo Premier prior to my second cable card arrival. My new TiVo went back and I have since received a full credit for the purchase price. I did cancel the second cable card order.

I have heard the Cisco boxes are way behind in img development and have no idea if that will change. Perhaps they will leapfrog the Motorola with a 1.9 build and slightly more flash memory. But from what I have read everything else is the same. Only Verizon knows the path they will take with Cisco. I was going to be one of the CLs in my area if and when Cisco became available. But unless I see MAJOR changes, I will need to decline the offer. But I do suspect Verizon may have some tricks up their sleeves. So I have not given up 100% on the offer or the Cisco hardware.

I have the following now and have been very pleased. Lookout Tivo the 1.9 img just might blow your socks off!

HMDVR Bundle With

1- QIP-7232 P2 Black Smaller foot print DVR With 500gig storage, and a bright white display some don't like. I say it is ok and rather cool. Bright Green would have been retro and really annoying. But the white is ok for me. Fast response times.

1- QIP-7100 P2  Black Smaller footprint, light weight, no display, probably lower production costs. Fast response times.

3- QIP-7100 P1 Same as all the previous Silver HD STB DVR boxes. Work ok and good response time.

2- QIP-2500 SD boxes went back in Dec. 2010. When I picked up a QIP-7216 and the QIP-7100 P1 boxes.

I just swapped out the QIP-7216 for the QIP-7232 P2, added the QIP-7100 P2 and turned in my cable card. No More Tivo HD for me. Sorry Tivo!

Actually, that may make sense if they are making the necessary updates to the network to support the new boxes one VHO at a time.  I guess with winter coming, they figured they better get the better DVR's up to the folks in Buffalo first ... what else is there to do up there but watch TV once the snow starts falling!  Smiley Very Happy

What does cold weather have to do with anything? I appreciate the humor, but.... Perhars those people will be out in the cold with Verizon buggy hardware that does now work right. I know there has been extensive testing, but MS Windows has been extensivly tested, and look how many years it took to get that sort of right. I vote for Verizon STB update Tuesdays.Smiley Tongue

One more note. This Wendy person dropped me like hot potato, never even gave me a chance to continue the conversation or say a second word! Just chick here you go. Well if I could, I would send all my STB HW back, but I can't afford 3 more Tivo's right now and no one makes just a STB that is not a DVR. I am looking a possibly a 4 cablecard home if I can find 2 Tivo HDs ant a good price, and order one of their new ones.

Do you need a Verizon STB?

I have some info on the Cisco boxes.

1st.   They are in the final testing phases. They only have them in limited area's of the NY Buffalo area.

2nd.  They are currently installing them in "New Installs" only. No existing customer is being upgraded (at this point, again this is for the final testing phase)

3rd.  Any customer that has Motorola STB's cannot have Cisco. They are unable to mix motorola and cisco equipment in the same home. So you cannot have both Motorola and Cisco in the same location. It is one or the other. Has to do something with the archetecture used when provisioning the STB's

4th.  The Motorola DVR's with the 500gb HD are now starting to roll out. I have a friend in MA that just got installed and he has the new 7232 Motorola DVR. We havent figured out exactly how many hours that works out to yet, but it is more than 50 hrs of HD programming. Dont know how much more but it is looking good so far. He asked the tech if others could get the new dvr too but the tech didnt know. He said they just got them and only have a limited amount so they are using them for new installs for now, but the good news is that they are finally arriving.

When Brighthouse released a new 320gb DVR, there was no notice at all. They just quietly started to appear in swap-outs, but not in new installs. I guess they wanted to keep the customers that were having problems happy. I didn't find out it was 320 until after I started recording and noticed the % being low.

Thanks spacedebris I pretty much new this too. But I will take your solution with mine and order order a TiVO. I guess when the new boxes become old news, us long term customers will be able to get them when our Tivo contracts expire. I expected that to happen with the one I bought last year. I was greatly disappointed with the 7100-1 so I think when my new Tivo box comes, I can take this back to the store. In for a penny in for a pound. I like native pass through and I do not think the new Motorola boxes do that. I was expecting the Cisco boxes to do that, but I guess I would probably be disappointed with that also. I will get something to keep me from blaming Verizon. There was talk about new STBs for over a year and I expected when they came out we could upgrade. How many years must I have the same Motorola junk before I can upgrade? When I heard six more months I snapped. I have three VZ boxes and would want to change them out to Cisco, but as always the new customers get the goods and the old get the shaft. I see a new Tivo in my future.

3.3mbps for SD, or 3,419,796.41 bits per sec = 1.433GB/hr = 94.19 hours into 134.64GB - the one hour LOD buffer = 85.8 hours of SD storage.

Same data for HD @ 13.7mbps,

the above was for 160GB HD   So what does that factor in at 500 GB
