I just bought a new tv (LG model 24MA31D) and the Verizon tech hooked up the FIOS set top box to it using the composite cables that came with it. The tv only has one set of ports for the 5 cables. To use my Wii I have to either trade out all the cables each time or use a 4-device component video selector I bought at Best Buy. The guy at BB said if the set top box has an HDMI port then I can just connect it to the tv with an HDMI cable and leave the Wii connected via cables.
I've seen some discussion on here that the HDMI doesn't really work on the set top box. Is this true? Sure would be nice to have fewer cables and one less electronic device. Thanks in advance for your help!

The STB will work fine with HDMI input. I use it on 3 boxes. My install tech also hooked them up with composite cables. I switched them out the next day and havn't had a problem. I believe they use the composite cables because they are cheaper than HDMI cables for comparable quality.

You didn't tell us which model of Cisco STB you have; however chances are very good that the HDMI port works and works well.
Don't by HDMI cables at Best Buy. You can find them online for 1/10th the price. No need to pay for gold plating, all it does is gold plate some rich guy's pocket.
Buy a HDMI cable or three and don't look back.
Good Luck.

amazon or monoprice.com for all your hdmi cables. it's almost criminal to buy it anywhere else.
