DVR box is very slow

I have two DVR boxes. I have never had an issue with the the box upstairs, however, I've replaced the box downstairs three times because it's extremely slow. When I turn the box on, I need to wait 5 minutes before it reacts or does anything. I'm starting to think that the box is fine but something else is causing the issue/delays. Any thoughts? Even after it "warms up" it takes a very long time to react. I'll click "guide" and it will take 15+ seconds to pop-up on screen. It's driving me insane.

What are the model numbers of the boxes?

How are you turning them on and off? Remote or power strip?

Both are model# QIP7216. I'm just using the remote to turn them off and on.

It could be the HDMI handshake causing the delay. I am running Cisco boxes, so perhaps we can get feedback from abother users. I did have 7232 and did experience some delay when turning the boxes on. I never actually turned mine off so when ever I turned the TV on they were ready to go. I know it does not conserve much power. Now with the Cisco I have the same issue where it says STB starting up. This is because of the Energy Star and standby modes I quess.
