I have a 7216 DVR that is about 5 years old. Over the past week it's been humming - maybe a fan or the disk drive? Over the past few days we have lost power and the DVR lost all recorded shows both times. I think I need a new DVR. Any thoughts?

Its possible. The dvr hd does make clicking and humming noises, but if they are sounds you never heard before then it could be starting to have issues. You can easily swap boxes out. You can do it online in your account, on the dvr menu, at a fios store (they will charge $10 to return the old box though), or by calling them.
