DVR Pricing

It seems to me that there is no reason to charge 16 or 20 dollars a month for a dvr. I feel they should charge the regular converter box rental and the dvr service should be a monthly fee. My reason is that if you want to have more than one dvr the service fee would cover as many as you would want to have and the you pay the service fee for example 10 dollars a month.

I don't think any cable companies do that, not my last one, that's for sure.

i have directv now and switching to fios this weekend. With directv i pay 10 dollars a month for dvr service. I have two dvrs and the rental fee is 6 dollors a month for each. With verizon i ordered two one multi room and a one standard i just feel that 16 for a coverter box and 20 for the other is crazy. I they followed my thinking i would save 10 dollars a month and order an additional package example the sports package. The rental fee for a converter should never be that high the ability to use a dvr is a service not a rental.

yeah I found that a issue myself when I signed up. But I looked at the over all price savings with internet and TV and I came out on top and saved money with fios. I use only one DVR and stream my recorded shows to my other set top boxes, so I no longer need more then one DVR.

Windows media center its part of vista ultimate. It turns your PC into a DVR, but cost a lot more then the DVR rental. But I built it for more then just a DVR.

But didn't you have to pay some upfront dollars to get the DVR (which you don't even own)?  Verizon basically amortizes the upfront costs in an increased monthly cost.  Also, Verizon replaces any equipment that dies for no charge.  I believe with DirecTV after an initial period, you would be responsible for the cost of replacement (not sure on that one as I never had their service).

there is an upfront cost of 99 dollars but they give you a service credit to offset it and no you dont pay for a dead unit replacement they will send you a new unit overnight at no cost. Even if there was an upfront cost of 99 dollars after 10 months you paid for that and you still have 140 dollars if it was over a two year period. I have been with directv so long that all the equipment i have i do own.
