DVR upgrade question and old DVR

I just got my new upgraded DVR. Filled out form yesterday afternoon and it arrived this morning, quick service from Verizon, thanks. My question, I would like to access my old DVR to watch recorded shows before it is sent back. Once I disconnected old DVR, power and FIOS coax, then plugged the power back in, the old DVR will not restart, all I get is waiting to start screen, which never changes. If I connect FIOS coax it starts right up but once it loses power it will not restart without FIOS coax. I want to connect up new DVR but also be able to access old one. My power goes off a lot here so once I lose power to old DVR, no way to access it. Anyone know of a way to get access to the old DVR, recorded shows without connecting the FIOS coax? Thanks.

When the DVR starts up it will look for FiOS service, and will not find it until it is connected to the coax. Also I believe you will be charged for the old DVR until it is returned. The sooner the better, unless you wish to keep the existing DVR and have two.

Prisaz is correct.  The only way I can see for you to keep the recordings from the old DVR is to record them yourself a second time to a DVD using a DVD recorder, or if you happen to have a desktop/laptop with a video capture card you can record the videos a second time to the PC hard drive/DVD burner.  The recordings are lost once you send back the old DVR.  Sorry.

The old DVR was 

160 GB        55 to 100  hrs of SD programming and  14 to 21 hrs of HD programming

While the new model holds much much more. 

500 GB       175 to 222 hrs of SD programming and 45 to 73 hrs of HD programming

Is the only difference in the two DVRs is storage?  and of course 3 dollars more a month.

At this time, from the customer prospective, about the only difference among the 3 DVR's that are out there is the capacity.

There are some more subtle differences. The 6416 cannot handler MP4, while the 7216 and 7232 can. 7216 and 7232 have more memory and a slightly faster processor, but it is very hard to show that either has a noticeable impact on use. The ethernet, USB and other 'inputs' are non-functional on all models.

The 7232 is a 'greener' product. It uses about 23 watts versus closer to 40 watts for the 7216 and 6416, so the 7232 will get you a little lower electric bill. I also think the 7232 is a little quieter than the the other boxes.

The display on the front of the 7232 is quite a bit different from the 6416 and 7216, and good deal brighter. The 6416 also lacks the E-Sata port and and SD RF output. The former can be used for external storage on img 1.9 and later, the RF output feature is of dubious value on an HD Device.

There is no difference in price, unless perhaps you had some sort of special deal on the old DVR.  Even if you did some say their deal carried over to the new. DVR

Each model newer model had more internal memory and a faster processor.  The 7232 has the 500 GB hard drive.

If you have a 6416 you will not got the GUIDE in HD.  It cannot support mpeg4, assuming Verizon goes that way.  Certain functions are notablty slower especially compared to the 7232.
