External Hard Drive for DVR?

I notice on my Verizon FIOS DVR (Motorola QIP6416-2) that there are IEEE1394, Ethernet and USB ports.  Can any of these be used for increased DVR Storage capacity?

Hello thoff,

Just FYI, I am reaching out to someone here at Verizon to answer your set top box, USB questions.  Stay tuned....

Thoff -

The 6416 DVR current firmware does not support an external hard drive.  Supposedly the new 7216 may have this capability enabled.  But, for now the answer is none of these ports are supported.

When it's enabled it's supposed to be esata.

I found out that Keyboards and JohnA are correct.  Thank you, both, for your answers.  Much appreciated.

Status is that they are available and out in the Verizon customers houses. There are no new features right now, but next year they are rumored to support ESATA external HD's and MPEG4 compression.

I'm a new FIOS customer, as of today.  They installed the 7216 DVR, but I was told the ESATA device connection would require advanced data features which aren't available yet.
