Did this start as part of the software update?  I got an email saying mine would be updated tomorrow -- I pay hundreds a month for FiOS TV and Internet. If they add banners to my guide I will cancel on principal alone. I could save a ton by just using netflix and itunes for my TV and a different provider for my internet. Not like I get the speeds I'm promised from FiOS anyway.

If FiOS was a free service then, sure, put ads in but don't make me watch ads on tv, force me to stare at ugly ads in the interface and do pop-up ads when I turn on the STB just because you're greedy - that shows you don't care about your paying customers one bit. Imagine if I made you solve a riddle before you could debit my monthly payment -- doubt you'd enjoy that so don't subject us to extra ads we don't want to see.

These are peer to peer forums. You arent talking to Verizon nor will you get a response on this matter.

Yes, the new update does have ads in the guide. It sucks and until Verizon sees that people are upset or gives us another new update, everyone will be stuck with it for as long as they have service.

Anyone know if any of the other large cable providers (Comcast, TWC, ATT, Cox) have ads in their guides?

I know insight does (which I think is now Time Warner). Theirs is really terrible because if you're pressing the down arrow through the guide your selection lands on the ad first before continuing down the next page of programming... so you may inadvertantly select the ad which, from what I remember, brings up a full screen ad and I'm sure they get paid for "clicks" on that ad. Highly annoying.

I agree!!!  Verizon have and are making $ on us and then posting a note on the bottom of the Guide suggesting we should add to our internet service for multiple devises for $10.00/month.  Well, the speed we now have is 50/25 and worked just fine until they put this ad there and now the Guide basically says "please wait" until the information comes up.  These hooligans just want to make more $ for support to buy another media business to stay abreast with Comcast.  In the meantime, we pay more for TV/internet services and with less speed than they do/have in Europe; my brother pays a third of what we do, with a higher speed internet and NO CHANNEL BUNDLING.   {please keep it relevant}   If interested send me a message at {edited for privacy}   Happy interneting!!

Previous comments were that it doesn't make the guide any bigger.

What did they put in its place?

The Verizon logo and the word "Verizon" in a font size that is about the same size as the guide data. Also the background color for that area is now the same as the area at the top.

And it takes a re-boot of the STB to get rid of it after making the change in the menu! HUH????

To me this whole issue was a joke to begin with. That banner down there distracted me for maybe 3 days, and then it was like it was not there, I never really saw it, I have no idea what they might have been selling there. Big fuss over nothing IMO.....

Justin, I suspect it didn't take a reboot to add the item to disable the add banner to the menu, but it probably did to refresh the page template used in the IMG to paint the guide in the first place.

I agree with you on this being a non-issue after getting used to it, but I do appreciate getting rid of the visual clutter that mostly resulted when the banner ad had lots of colors in it.  My eyes are happier now.  And Verizon apparently listened to all of the negative comments that resulted when they added the ad in the fist place!.
