FIOS TV-MA Ratings on VOD Titles

I am generally not against having Adult titles available. Heck, I am an adult.

I have the Movie Package (TMC Starz etc ). I noticed that the VOD for TMC ( and probably some of the others) have premium subscription movies that are rated TV-MA with a high amount of nudity and explicit sex.(i.e. TMC Midnight Movies)

I have two STB's. One is available to my kids. One is not. My youngest kid is 15...oldest is 17. Generally, they do watch things like Family Guy, South Park. The older kid can watch some of Adult Swim...but, I don't want to give them access to all of the more explicit movies.

1. Why are the sexually explicit movies rated TV-MA?

2. Is there any way to block the Premium VOD only? Can I do this by blocking that particular premium channel?

My current option is to block TV-MA content. If there's a way to block that Premium VOD, that would be great!

I would have to agree with you here Smolderin.

However the ratings aren't given by verizon but by the MPAA - Motion Picture Association of America.

You can put in a parental control for TV-MA but it will control all TV-MA on the boxes if we remove the VOD you won't get that for VOD

Part of being a teenager and having cable with movies, is late night Skinemeax movies....

If it is not on thier TV, it will be on their computer or at thier friends house....

Is some cheesey b rated skin flick, really worse than the other shows that they are admittedly allowed to watch?

Heck, the 17 year old can legally go to the theater and watch any movie

To each is own, and I am not at all trying to question how you raise your children... but, seriously, just because those other shows are animated, doent make them any less vulgar, explicit, or obscene... if they are watching and enjoying these shows, they have already been exposed to what they are going to see on the skin flicks...

I'd suggest blocking all TV-MA and then when there is something you'd allow them to watch, use the PIN to unblock it yourself.  Tell 'em that's the tradeoff for actually getting to watch the TV-MA stuff - they have to do it with your knowledge and individual permission.

Yes, it's inconvenient, but IMO better than unblocking everything.

TMC late night movies are not the only concern. There are Cinemax late night movies (even if you don't get the package, they have had like 3 preview weekends this year), and a few series (like True Blood, which makes me really sad, cause I like the books and the content was actually "ramped up" for tv to get the MA rating).
