Home Media HD DVR doesn't do as advertised

Hi all,

About a week ago, I changed from Time Warner Cable to Verizon FIOS TV, Interent and Phone. One of the selling points was the fact I could (with the use of the Home Media HD DVR) record a show(s) on the HM HD DVR and "watch it on ANY set top box!" Well, I am here to tell you that statement is false! I have 5 tv's connected to FIOS. TV1 - HM HD DVR, TV2 - HD DVR, TV3 - Plain STB, TV's 4 & 5 have the Analog Converter boxes. It makes sense to me that I can't watch a recorded program on the 2 Analog Boxes. It works as advertised with TV3 - Plain STB, but since TV2 is also an DVR it cannot watch HM HD DVR recorded programs. Basically, I can either watch the recorded program on the HM HD DVR or the Plain STB and NOT as advertised as "any STB!"

Dude, If they put that caveat into their ads nobody would understand what the heck they're talking about. By and large, the HMDVR works as advertised, the main advantage being that you *don't* need to manage 2 dvrs in your house. I certainly have issues with the storage and control capabilities of HMDVR, but I think the Verizon ads about it withstand scrutiny.

Koz,

Here is a link to a page on the Verizon website where it very clearly states what STBs you can use to watch from a multi-room DVR: Link

A quote from the page: "With Home Media DVR, you can watch a program recorded on your DVR from other TV sets in your home that are connected to a regular (non-DVR) set-top box." So Verizon has in fact clearly stated the restriction IMO.

Now, you can watch recorded programs from the DVR on SD STBs if the recording is in SD (only). So if you know you are going to want to watch a recording on one of your SD boxes, be sure to record the SD channel, not HD.

I think we may have another case of instore sales people not knowing the actual specifications and perhaps maybe a consumer not doing their own research.
