Hooking up STB-DVD-TV

I am trying to hook the motorola  2500  to a new Toshiba  DVD-VCR combo (no tuner)  then to a sharp  tv with S cables and RCA audio. The diagram seems to show that the coax goes only to the STB, but I cannot seem to get it to work like this.. only blue screen unless I hook the coaxial from STB to TV.  The DVD/VCR combo has no coax in jack.

ALSO.. can this setup work  for TV without powering the  DVD on ?  It does not work now unless the DVD power is on

you would be best off, hooking each device directly to the TV... SEPERATLEY

STB to TV with COAX.... and DVD to TV with COMPOSITE(RCA/red,yellow,white)

then just switch the TV input selection back and forth to use each device individually

The answer depends upon what connections your TV and DVD-VCR has.

For the best picture you would connect the TV via the DVD-VCR using S-Video Cables and component audio. This assumes that both devices have S-Video input AND output, and component audio input AND output.

IT also assumes that even when off the DVD-VCR passes these signals when turned off.. Most, but not all, pass these signals even when off. In any case for this to work, the TV will have to be set to take the S-VHS input. However if you TV only has 1 S-VHS connection, odds are it is output, rather than input, and it isn't going to work that way.

The other possible 'fly in the ointment' is that if any of the programming contains macro-vision copy protection, you are slightly screwed.

In any case, it should go S-Video from the 2500 to the DVD-VCR (and make sure it is on the S-Video Input), and then S-video output on the DVD-VCR to S-Video input on the TV. You must then select the S-Video input on your TV. On some TV's and VCR's, you have to manually enable the S-Video input for it to work.Check the setup menu.

The audio goes from the 2500 box to the DVD-VCR (Red and White RCA cables) Audio input, and then from the DVD-VCR Audio output to the TV Audio-Input. If your TV has more than one set of inputs, make sure the S-Video and Audio cables are connected to the SAME input and S-Video input is selected. Some TV's DO NOT have an S-VHS input, and in fact if your TV only has one S-VHS connector it is probably an output, not an input.

If the TV doesn't have S-VHS input, then you will need to run composite video to the TV, and that you can get right off the back of the 2500 (yellow RCA connector).

I concur.  It is far better to separate your components to different inputs anyway.
