Then why does it say at this page:

http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/fiostv/other+hardware/esata/129841.htm?

Do I need a special eSATA device or is any eSATA device compatible with FiOS TV?
You do not need a special eSATA device for FiOS TV.

Does the eSATA device I use require a minimum or maximum storage limit for FiOS TV?
Any size eSATA device works with your Verizon FiOS TV DVR provided the DVR is compatible with eSATA.

This seems to indicate there are NO restrictions on which eSATA drive to use.

Sorry Joe, this definitely doesn't square with the release notes:

"While we have done nothing to block plugging in any eSATA drive to the DVR’s, if you use a drive that has not been qualified by Verizon then we will not be able to support any potential problems. Please also be aware that we found several units that did not work properly due to the extreme sustained I/O performance required to support this application."

Say, given the Obama administrations flubbing of the information coming out of the OBL raid, they haven't pulled a GM on you guys have they?

Great... now that I'm upgraded (for a 1-time $40 fee) to a 7232 with 640gb, I am told that they cannot remove the multiroom dvr option (which with my 3 dvr's I cannot use anyway), so that amounts to a $4 a month surcharge to keep the 7232. I am told that all 640gb models require the Multiroom option even if you can't use it!! Then I am told that I can return it (no refund of the $40 of course and I have to pay $40 again to swap it out) for the smaller one like I had before. But I can then expand the smaller one with the new upgrade which is supposedly available in the Tampa area. The only problem with that is that my 3 dvrs do NOT have the 1.9 version software. "No, of course you have it" they say... then why does my screen show "1.8" on all three units? No answer! Is there any sanity at Verizon???

I was asked if I now have the Cisco box. I answered, no it says Motorola on it everywhere (top and bottom). She says "Well that means Cisco".. Really?? and how would anyone know that? No answer.

On another screw-up, I received a letter stating that I could bundle my 4 units (1 MR-DVR and 3 set top boxes) for $10 less cost. "Call this number...". When I called I was told no way was it available to me with only 3 boxes!

I must be in the Twilight Zone.

I just talked with another VZ sales rep about the 1.9 rollout. He explained the schedule very simply: "We update until the customer support group is nearly swamped with calls about the changes. Then we stop until it abates before restarting the rollout." So it is the relative tech "savyness" of the local customer base that dictates the schedule. In the area of Florida where I live..., and the number of senior citizens here.... it may go on hold forever...;-)

At least some of the information you are getting is wrong.

To start with, I don't know where you got the 640 GB with the 7232, but it is 500 GB. I have one, I have gone into the information screens and verified that the hard drive is 500 GB.

Now to the multi-room option on the 7232. It most definitely is not required to have the multi-room option on a 7232 DVR. I have a 7232, when I first got it, it did not have the multi-room option, I had to call and get it activated (and by the ay, it works well with my two other STBs). Now I have not tried to remove the option, but I see no reason why you could not do so - if Verizon can turn it on in your home, surely they can turn it off.

The Cisco STBs are only available in the Buffalo, NY area I think, and I think that Verizon has maybe started rolling them out in a few more cities. But from what I have heard, not Tampa. And even if they are available in Tampa, they would say Cisco, not Motorola.

If you go into the Menu ==> Settings ==> System Information and it says 1.8, then that is what you have, 1.8, not 1.9. You cannot, repeat cannot, attach an external eSATA drive to any of the DVRs with 1.8, you must have the 1.9 level of the IMG.

How many STBs does it take to get the discount? A minimum of three I think. I have the 7232 and two other STBs, and I have the discount. I went through the ordering process on MyVerizon to do it, it clearly gave me a discount. You mention that you have three DVRs; it is my understanding that you cannot get the discount with those, only with a DVR and additional non-DVR STBs. But of course I may be wrong on this, as I do not have multiple DVRs and did not look for any option with multiple DVRs.

Now, if I were you, I would simply keep the 7232 and wait for 1.9. It should not be too long, maybe a week, maybe two, maybe three, maybe a month, maybe two months. So what does that really cost you extra? $4 or $8 or so max probably and then you will have the functionality you want. And from what I have read the multi-room functionality with multiple DVRs is really nice.

I am looking forward to getting 1.9, but Joe said in his Meet the Experts session that Texas would be near the last; I think he also said Tampa would be early, but you can certainly review the threads in that section to see if my memory is even reasonably decent. Smiley Very Happy

Hope this helps.

Some?  Almost everything is wrong.... That was my point.

To start with, I don't know where you got the 640 GB with the 7232, but it is 500 GB. I have one, I have gone into the information screens and verified that the hard drive is 500 GB.

Yeah I seem to remember it being 500GB but 640 is what the VZ rep said. My info screen shows 500 and the part number is for a 500GB drive.

The rep was adament about this and called anything otherwise a lie! I would probably get a different answer tomorrow, or the day after...

The Cisco STBs are only available in the Buffalo, NY area I think, and I think that Verizon has maybe started rolling them out in a few more cities. But from what I have heard, not Tampa. And even if they are available in Tampa, they would say Cisco, not Motorola.

I know it's a Mot, but the rep said "no way". Another fault in the system.

If you go into the Menu ==> Settings ==> System Information and it says 1.8, then that is what you have, 1.8, not 1.9. You cannot, repeat cannot, attach an external eSATA drive to any of the DVRs with 1.8, you must have the 1.9 level of the IMG.

I am aware of the need for 1.9 and I have 1.8. Waiting.... see my prior post about that.

How many STBs does it take to get the discount? A minimum of three I think. I have the 7232 and two other STBs, and I have the discount. I went through the ordering process on MyVerizon to do it, it clearly gave me a discount. But of course I may be wrong on this, as I do not have multiple DVRs and did not look for any option with multiple DVRs.

My point was... why did they send me a personal invitaion to call if they didn't even know what I have?

Now, if I were you, I would simply keep the 7232 and wait for 1.9. It should not be too long, maybe a week, maybe two, maybe three, maybe a month, maybe two months. So what does that really cost you extra? $4 or $8 or so max probably and then you will have the functionality you want. I am keeping it for now.

Curious when Virginia (DC metro area specifically) will start to see the 1.9 love.  Been waiting on this update to finally be able to add my GoogleTV to my set up since October.

You can get a pretty good idea from this thread:

No, that's old information. From what I read at dslreports.com, the rollout is currently completely on hold and is being reworked. Could be a while.

Besides, Joe specifically said he wan't giving any dates, so I fail to see how that could answer the question Justin.  Bottom line is you will get it when you get it and not a moment sooner Smiley Tongue
