Here's a question Joe/Justin should be able to answer:

Is the roll-out on hold?

Here is the latest from Joe Ambeault:

"We are pausing for a moment to incorporate some customer feedback into 1.9 (e.g. SD Override wizard and improved contrast between the text and background)... we'll be back in action shortly."

Posted this morning (5/9/2011) on the Verizon Information Exchange.

No it is not old information. Joe did not give any dates, he gave relative positions in the rollout. As far as I know those relative positions have not changed. And from what Joe posted earlier today, yes, there is a hold, and no, it won't be very long.

Too long indeed.  Didn't you people beta this for many, many months already?

I undestand the logic of rolling out small to large VHOs, but dang, pausing for updates at this point clearly shows significant flaws in your beta test process.

Just curious, to whom are you addressing the "you people" and "your" comments? Someone at Verizon? In case you haven't bothered to read, this is a user-to-user forum.

You know, this whining from a few about the delay has reached the point where I think it would be great if Verizon would deliver the code to your STBs just as it was before the stop, and then when you complained about how this was broken and that didn't work, they just ignored you for 6 months or so. Maybe you would be a little more patient in the future.

Or maybe a better alternative would be for you to show Verizon just how important this delay is to you and cancel your service, then you could get your service from someone else and would have the opportunity to gripe about them, and we would not have to read this useless junk from the few. And when you cancel, be sure to tell them why you are cancelling.

Note: I have used the word "few" here, for a reason. From what Joe said in his Meet the Expert topic, Verizon has about 3.5 million TV customers and about 10 million STBs installed. Just what percentage of those customers are complaining about the delay? About not having 1.9? How many even know 1.9 exists?

Come on, 1.9 has some nice new features, but every one of us can wait a little while longer to get it (and besides, all your complaining is not going to get it to you a single minute earlier).

Geez, Verizon can't win, no matter what they do and how hard they try to satisfy some of you.

I think zich6's questions were more rhetorical, not expecting an answer, and not directed at anyone in this group. Something like "I would say to them '....'.".

That's correct GaryDoug.  We all know Vz reads their own forums.

"Just curious, to whom are you addressing the "you people" and "your" comments? Someone at Verizon? In case you haven't bothered to read, this is a user-to-user forum."

Verizon.  Justin, you're either a Vz employee, or a serious fanboy.  You have a long history of intolerance for anyone who criticizes Vz.

"You know, this whining from a few about the delay has reached the point where I think it would be great if Verizon would deliver the code to your STBs just as it was before the stop, and then when you complained about how this was broken and that didn't work, they just ignored you for 6 months or so. Maybe you would be a little more patient in the future."

I wish.  I would have taken the earliest beta.   It's miles ahead of 1.8.  The issue for me isn't the visual aspects of 1.9.   It's hooking up a 1TB or greater eSATA so I don't have to delete programming fron the hard disk because I routinely run out of space,

Intolerance for shoddy project management is not whining.  It's called user feedback which Vz says they value from their customers.  How does any company improve if their customers are satisfied with everything they do?

"Or maybe a better alternative would be for you to show Verizon just how important this delay is to you and cancel your service, then you could get your service from someone else and would have the opportunity to gripe about them, and we would not have to read this useless junk from the few. Ah, OK, the "love it or leave it" philosophy.  Precisely what precept of excellent customer service is that derived from?  The feedback I'm providing is only useless to fanboys like you.

"Note: I have used the word "few" here, for a reason. From what Joe said in his Meet the Expert topic, Verizon has about 3.5 million TV customers and about 10 million STBs installed. Apparently, you have a reading comprehension challenge.  If you review this thread a significant per centage of the posters are dissatisfied with the roll-out and the amount of information Vz is providing.  I think I represent a large proportion of subscribers.

"Come on, 1.9 has some nice new features, but every one of us can wait a little while longer to get it (and besides, all your complaining is not going to get it to you a single minute earlier)."

Living without 1.9 isn't the issue.  The glacial beta test and roll-out is.  Since 1.9 was announced early last year, it has taken way too long to get to this point.  Vz needs to know they need to do much better.  Congratulations atb this point would incentivize Vz to replicate the 1.9 schedule.  I don't know what business you're in, but I've rum $500M construction projects with massive IT components.  If my schedules slipped the way the Vz estimated schedule we were given last year which was "early next year, probably January," I wouldn't be running projects any longer.

"Geez, Verizon can't win, no matter what they do and how hard they try to satisfy some of you."

They can win by keeping there customers better informed, as well as, committing to improve the roll-out of the next update.  That may be news to you Justin, but that's the way good companies and the world of business works.

zich6,

1) If your comments are intended for Verizon, then I think you should send them to Verizon, not to a user-to-user audience. Why don't you mail, email, phone, or visit some Verizon executives and express your thoughts? Complaining here accomplishes nothing positive. And no, I do not work for Verizon. And yes, I am a fan of their phone, internet, and TV service. I have had Verizon (and GTE before that) phone service for 31+ years, I have had internet and TV service for 5 1/2+ years, and my experience has been very positive. So why wouldn't I be a fan? And despite how you describe me, I think if you actually go look fairly at all of the posts I have made (not worth the effort, I know) you will find I have criticized Verizon heavily when I thought they deserved it. I like Verizon's FiOS product, and am happy to say that I do. If that makes me a 'fanboy", so be it, I would rather be a fan of something than be so negative.

2) How is anything (anything!) you have said even remotely constructive feedback to Verizon? All you have done is complain about the delay and criticize their development, testing, and beta procedures. You have not made a single suggestion for improvement that I have seen. You don't know their procedures (and neither do I), they may very well be good candidates for improvement. But just saying how bad they are does't accomplish anything, that isn't feedback, that is whining.

3) Yes, love it or leave it. What other choices do you have? Well, hate it and keep it i guess. But sometimes leaving is just the best solution - I got fed up with Charter Cable and jumped on FiOS when it became available. And of course by leaving you would theoretically be hitting Verizon in the pocketbook. And again, where are your suggestions for improvement in your socalled "feedback".

4) A significant percentage of the posters? Surely you must be kidding! 3.5 million users, and 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 posters express disappointment at delays? I think you have a very inflated view of your own importance, you represent an incredibly small percentage of the subscriber base.

5) Ah, the old "I am an IT expert, I know everything about software development, I have run great big projects, etc, etc, etc" position. Well, if you are so great, why don't you quit whatever job you now have and apply to Verizon. I am sure with your great resume they would take you in a second, and then you could fix all of the development and testing problems next week, or for sure the week after. As for what business I am in, fortunately I am not in any, I am retired. But I did spend 37+ years in the computer industry, in very technical jobs - helping customers install hardware and software and use it, software development, software testing, running beta tests, writing manuals, etc. So I do have some background here. But of course I am obviously far inferior to you with your vast IT skills.

I have a suggestion for you: I see you registered here in June of 2009, yet have only 37 posts. Since you have so much expertise, why don't you make an effort to contribute positive things to the forums, like answering other people's questions? You apparently don't like what I say, or how I say it, so why don't you say it instead? We have some great people here that make big efforts to help others, why don't you try that?

To net this out, your constant complaining about the delays and problems contribute absolutely nothing to the success of 1.9, or to any future Verizon development efforts .I am eagarly awaiting 1.9, but I want it to work properly when I do get it. So I am just willing to wait for Verizon to hopefully deliver a quality product that we will all be happy with.

Why you are suprised? This is THE Verizon for God sakes, the only thing Verizon people care is profits and their big bonuses. IMG 1.9 may or may not bring them new customers, so they not in a hurry to roll it out.
