I think the slow introduction is actually a good indication that VZ is listening. If not, we would get the update as is and with no recourse. And the right time for correction is up front, not later after the coders have put it out of their minds. MS introduced their screen themes a few years ago amidst complaints about the low screen contrast and pastel colors. The complaints went unheeded to this day. I see indication that this very same complaint is getting some ear at VZ. Good for them.

"1) If your comments are intended for Verizon, then I think you should send them to Verizon, not to a user-to-user audience. Why don't you mail, email, phone, or visit some Verizon executives and express your thoughts? Complaining here accomplishes nothing positive. And no, I do not work for Verizon. And yes, I am a fan of their phone, internet, and TV service. I have had Verizon (and GTE before that) phone service for 31+ years, I have had internet and TV service for 5 1/2+ years, and my experience has been very positive. So why wouldn't I be a fan? And despite how you describe me, I think if you actually go look fairly at all of the posts I have made (not worth the effort, I know) you will find I have criticized Verizon heavily when I thought they deserved it. I like Verizon's FiOS product, and am happy to say that I do. If that makes me a 'fanboy", so be it, I would rather be a fan of something than be so negative."

So, no one should criticize Vz here, we should all send our complaints directly to Vz and no negative comments here do any good?  Hm, think you're in the majority on this board?  I think not.  However, if this was such an open, solely peer-to-peer forum, why are all the moderators Vz employees who have the responsibility to monitor posts?  In addition, why is it OK for you to criticize Vz when you think they deserve it, but not others.

"2) How is anything (anything!) you have said even remotely constructive feedback to Verizon? All you have done is complain about the delay and criticize their development, testing, and beta procedures. You have not made a single suggestion for improvement that I have seen. You don't know their procedures (and neither do I), they may very well be good candidates for improvement. But just saying how bad they are doesn't accomplish anything, that isn't feedback, that is whining."

Not true.    I told them how to win by being more open with their customers and to improve their beta testing process.  They certainly now that it's warranted and how to do it.

I will give them another suggestion, in line with other software producers and my own experience (which you make fun of without putting forth any evidence or substantiation) the majority of companies know that there is always something that could be done to improve software, but at the risk of upsetting customers and losing business.  The list of these companies is not relegated to MS, but includes Apple and Adobe.  In short, Vz should not have "paused" the roll out, but should have included a message like "In keeping with Vz policy to bring the most cutting edge technology to their customers in the most expedient manner, we are releasing 1.9 without delay.  Please keep in mind that we are aware of minor fixes that need to be addressed and will be through updates as soon as they are available.  Thanks for your understanding," or words to that effect.  Really, after a lengthy beta test, how serious could the reasons be that paused the roll out.

"3) Yes, love it or leave it. What other choices do you have? Well, hate it and keep it i guess. But sometimes leaving is just the best solution - I got fed up with Charter Cable and jumped on FiOS when it became available. And of course by leaving you would theoretically be hitting Verizon in the pocketbook. And again, where are your suggestions for improvement in your socalled "feedback".

You really haven't answered many of my questions including this one.  Do you really believe "love it, or leave it" is good customer service?  Do you appreciate any vendor including auto dealers who tell you "take it, or leave it?"  It is interesting to note that you might think this way (and I believe you're in a very small minority), but I've not heard Vz voice this opinion (nor are they ever likely) nor any other successful business, have you?

I answered your feedback question previously.  You shouldn't be redundant.

4) A significant percentage of the posters? Surely you must be kidding! 3.5 million users, and 5, 10, 25, 50, 100 posters express disappointment at delays? I think you have a very inflated view of your own importance, you represent an incredibly small percentage of the subscriber base.

Well, unlike you, I did the math.  In the last 3 pages of this thread there were 10 posters that expressed an opinion about the thread topic.  By my count, 6 were negative and 4 (you of course) were positive.  Others were asking questions, or trying to answer them.  That's 60% negative Justin.  Unlike you, I don't just pontificate.  I back up my assertions with fact.  In addition, if you're trying to get anyone to believe that out of 3,5 million users (if that number is correct) only 100 are dissatisfied, you're fuzzy math is baseless and is not for serious consideration.

"5) Ah, the old "I am an IT expert, I know everything about software development, I have run great big projects, etc, etc, etc" position. Well, if you are so great, why don't you quit whatever job you now have and apply to Verizon. I am sure with your great resume they would take you in a second, and then you could fix all of the development and testing problems next week, or for sure the week after. As for what business I am in, fortunately I am not in any, I am retired. But I did spend 37+ years in the computer industry, in very technical jobs - helping customers install hardware and software and use it, software development, software testing, running beta tests, writing manuals, etc. So I do have some background here. But of course I am obviously far inferior to you with your vast IT skills."

Establishing bona fides, is an accepted practice to assist in substantiating one's position.  You realize this as you did it yourself.  I accept your bona fides.  I never said I possessed "vast IT skills."  That said, as I have mentioned, I would not have taken the course Vz has taken on this roll-out.  I'm puzzled by your response,  So, since I have experience and disagree with Vz, I need to quit my job and apply to work for them?  This makes no sense.

"I have a suggestion for you: I see you registered here in June of 2009, yet have only 37 posts. Since you have so much expertise, why don't you make an effort to contribute positive things to the forums, like answering other people's questions? You apparently don't like what I say, or how I say it, so why don't you say it instead? We have some great people here that make big efforts to help others, why don't you try that?"

Did you review my posts, as you should have, before assuming that I don't help people?  A great number of my posts did just that.  You make a good recommendation though.  I have been helped by others on this forum and I believe, as you apparently do, that members should try to help others when they can.

"To net this out, your constant complaining about the delays and problems contribute absolutely nothing to the success of 1.9, or to any future Verizon development efforts I am eagarly awaiting 1.9, but I want it to work properly when I do get it. So I am just willing to wait for Verizon to hopefully deliver a quality product that we will all be happy with."

That's purely you're opinion that I've previously stated is likely in error.  I also disagree with you on waiting.  As I've said, I think that any remaining minor flaws are trivia.  Therefore, l and a significant proportion of others would rather have it now, with minor flaws, than wait another 2-4 months.  I do recognize that that is only my opinion, but I think it's shared by others.

As I am unlikely to convince you of my position and you certainly are not going to convince me of yours, if you want to continue this discussion, I suggest we take it off-line to messaging or the phone.  In fact, with your OK, I'll pm my phone number and we can discuss this further as gentlemen.  I also agree to call you at a mutually agreeable time if you provide your number.

Thanks Justin.

Just a reminder that while we appreciate the sharing of opinions, they should not stray over into personal remarks. Please stay on the topic in the thread title, and keep your posts courteous.

Thank you.

The first reasonable and logical words from either side in this "discussion" I think Smiley Very Happy Thanks for bringing the level back down to earth! I tend to get a little hiper at times......sorry.....

I would be happy to exchange private messages, emails, phone discussion, whatever. But clearly you are not going to change your opinion, and I am not going to change mine, so I am not sure what we would really accomplish. I guess the most important and best solution for all of this is for Verizon to resume distribution of 1.9 ASAP, then we can stop worrying about the hold or no hold and related issues and hopefully focus instead on the great new features in 1.9, that again hopefully all work.

I will PM you my phone number and if you want to pursue this that way, fine, since I am retired pretty much any time of the day is ok, keeping in mind I am in the Central Time Zone.

I did tweet Joe with my suggestions yesterday and he responded the issue was standard definition related.

No real need to talk to each other Justin as you've mentioned, but we do agree on Vz getting on with it as soon as possible.

Can't we all just get along? I have a love/hate relationship with VZ.

When  all the kinks are worked out on VZ's img 1.9, I am certain we will have a product that will be second to none.

Well, I'm not sure about the 'second to none' remark.  I am trying out Netflix, and would like to know why I can access entire seasons (100+ episodes) of shows when I can't do that on FIOS.  If the cable companies want to compete with the Internet, they will have to start providing more on demand options.  FIOS seems to have about the same or less of what I wanted than Comcast and I expected more.  At the very least, I should be able to access entire seasons of current shows on demand.  And why are 20 year old movies still being offered for $2.99 when I can get current movies from Redbox for 99 cents?  Not sure if on demand changes are an improvement we'll see along with the 1.9 release but it is needed.  The 1.9 feature to search through on demand shows is definitely needed, especially since I can't skip forward at all on many shows now.

Hi guys, feel lucky to have found this thread. I've just moved to Tampa from the North and the house I've bought currently has Verizon for TV. Sounds like 1.9 isn't here yet. Could you guys please give me some advice about what I should buy / sign on for so that I'm in the best position I an be in when 1.9 is rolled out here? I plan on having 4 TVs and sure like the idea of a big HD on one multiroom DVR servicing all 4 TVs.

Thanks for any tips.

If you only want 1 DVR and 4 TVs, you can do that now. You don't need to wait for IMG 1.9.

MultiDVR will service 4 TVs, one at the DVR and 3 others using STBs
