Hello,
I'm a new FiOS customer & had my service installed January 2010. I have a HDTV and a QIP 7216 STB. When I turned my box on this morning a message popped up saying an update had been done overnight for routine maintenance, etc. But now, the guide does not display across the entire screen as it used to, and all menus, program descriptions, etc appear smaller. The guide appears with black bars on the left and right of it, unlike how it used to be - fullscreen.
Is there a way to revert back to the full screen guide? Or is this just part of the "update"? I preferred the fullscreen guide. If you need further info, let me know. I'm a first-time poster and new to FiOS and just looking for some advice 🙂
Thanks.

A previous update in December stretched the native 4:3 guide to 16:9, distorting it. It was never a true HD native 16:9 guide, and there were complaints thus the latest update to return it to its native 4:3. This all only applied to the 7xxx STBs. A future update will hopefully introduce a new native 16:9 guide.

That update retuned the guide to 4:3 after people complained it was stretched. A future update will give the consumer the option for full screen or not.

Oh ok - just wanted to make sure it wasn't something with my TV. Thanks for the answers!
Looking forward to the comeback of the 16:9 guide - was used to it and have to adjust to the 4:3 now. Thanks again! 🙂

Very disappointed with the change back to 4:3. If you need to make a change, at least add an option for size.

Yes, I, too, would like to see the return of the 16:9 guide. With my eyes the way they are, the bigger, the better!

This is yet another disappointment for me with Verizon Fios as compared to Directv. The DVR, hard drive space, functionality and GRID are inferior to Directv at this point. It is hard to believe that Verizon cannot push out 2 things to us.
1. Caller ID display. Directv has had this for years. Come on Verizon is a PHONE company! I just don't get this.
2. 16:9 display for the grid on the HD boxes. Another lack of functionality I don't understand at this point.
I am beginning to think I made a mistake switching from Directv to Verizon Fios. But I will give them a little more time.

I also have the small screen problem after the update but use a QIP 7100 receiver. As a retired Verizon employee I waited for a couple years to get FIOS service in my area. After about a year, I am not at all impressed. I'm not sure the cost is worth the service. Soon after the install I questioned the small screen IMG. I was told a change was coming. It did come some time later. OK, fine. Now this 'update'. How can they call this an improvement. Who would want a smaller picture? My rates will soon go up after the year of discounts they gave me to install FIOS. That will be yet another slap in the face. After retiring, I have realized what customers go through with service needs.
Not sure where I'll go for service after next year. My mother uses Dish network in Florida and is very happy with it. And what a price difference! Yes I am 'venting'.

true 16:9 with full HD canvas for graphics is the right answer
