My roomate and I are on the same verizon account but each have our own DVR's. Being private individuals we want to make it so our DVR's are invisible to each other. Is this possible?

Depends on what service you have. If you have quantum its not possible. If you have older dvr's do you have multi room service? If so drop the multi room service and each dvr you have should act alone without showing up on the dvr list.
Yeah I have 2 of the Quantum 6 tuner DVR's.
