I have 2 master set top boxes; one in my living room and the other in my master bedroom. The remote control in the living room (P265v3 RC) rewinds, plays, pauses and forwards while watching a live program. However, the one in my master bedroom cannot do the same. Although it is the SAME remote control. WHY NOT? I hope someone can help. I've called Verizon and tried resetting the remote control but to no avail:smileyfrustrated!

Not sure what you mean by master set top boxes.
Can you provide model numbers?
For older STBs (6XXX and 7XXX) only DVRs (6416, 7216 and 7232) can pause FF and RW live TV.
For Quantum, all devices can perform that function.

After sending in the older equipment we found that the remote we had was BETTER than the new ones. The older style had 4 buttons to control the equipment. An DVD, AUX, STP and TV which meant that we could turn the A/V (AUX), STP and TV on with one press of the power button and no other remote needed. Now it only turns on the STP and TV, which means that we need the remote for the AUX (A/V) unit also. The control limits the use of the volume control functions.
It appears that though we are paying more for the month with NEWER equipment that we have actually lost functionality and still have over 200+ channels that we don't want.
Was told that we would have to BUY the older style back, no swap available, by the tech support.
Doesn't Verizon have a concept of customer satisfaction in their playing plan any more.

There are 2, 4 button remote versions. An old one and a newer more updated one. The really old 4 button does not work well with Quantum.
You can get the newer versions on ebay very cheap or better yet buya Logitech Harmony remote which will work with everything.
Remotes are not part of the monthly fee you pay unlike other providers which is why after the warranty it's up to you to replace them when needed.

The regular master box - the front of the box on the right side has this number: QIP7232 2

But the remotes I have are EXACTLY the same. One (the one in the living room) allows you to perform those actions (rewind, forward, play, pause) during live shows (that are NOT DVR). The one in the master bedroom does not. That is my confusion with this whole thing.
Could the difference be the boxes? The box in the master bedroom is a QIP7100 2

Absolutely.
The 7232 is a DVR. Allows you to pause, rew and FF live TV.
The box in your MBR is not. It is just a STB.
All it can do is watch channels and if you have added DVR as a MRDVR, watch shows that you have recorded.
If you want the capability to pause, rew and FF live TV, you have to upgrade to Quantum service.
