missing hd channels on one tv

I'm missing some HD channels on my DVR but not on the other hd box. I call customer service and she tells me that I have to move boxes from one TV to the other to find out if it's a cabling issue. If I can record on one tuner and watch another channel does that not prove that both tuners are working.??

This sounds like something on their end where the DVR Box has not been set up properly.

I would just call back and tell them that your DVR is not getting some HD Channels that you should be receiving and leave the 2nd HD Box out of the conversation.

What they were trying to tell you to do was to swap the two STBs to see if the problem moved with the STB to the new location, indicating a problem with the STB itself, or stayed in the same location, indicating that the problem was probably a cabling problem between the splitter and that location. Just a quick and easy way to narrow the problem down, has nothing to do with the two tuners in the DVR.

What kind of error message do you get when you try to tune to one of the channels you should get but don't? If it is a "you are not subscribed..." type of message, that means that that STB (the DVR, right?) is not provisioned correctly, it is probably not set up for those channels (movie package, HBO, etc). If it is a "channel not available..." kind of message, that usually indicates cabling problems, especially if you get some HD channels you should get but not others.

One thing you can easily try - just remove the power from the STB for 10-15 seconds, plug it back in, let it go through its startup, and see if the problem is gone. The Motorola STBs tend to get themselves into a condition at times that they just don't work right, removing the power sometimes gets them back to working normally - not likely to help in this case, but you never know, and it doesn't take long to try.

Tell us what happens when you swap the STBs and what error message(s) you are getting and perhaps we can actually help.

Justin gave good info.  The only other thing that I would like to know is what message do you get on your TV Screen when you try to go to one of the "missing" channels?  Do you get "Currently Unavailable", or "You are not subscribed"?
