Multiple STB in one room

I just upgraded to Fios. I have to have 3 stb (2sd boxes each hooked to a dvd recorder and 1 multiroom dvr) in the same room in order to record what I want to. I was told if I have the front of the stbs I am not using blocked the remote would not change them. This is not the case. I even put the other boxes in a cabinet and the channel changed. I was told by both the sales person and the installer that I would be able to record 2 shows and watch a 3rd live through the DVR. This is also not the case.

I’ve thought about getting tivo but that’s another monthly fee.

Has anyone else had success with more than one stb in the same room?

Multiple boxes in one room will work but only if you can manage to block the IR reciever on the boxes you dont want the remote to control. Some have said that all they had to do to block it was just to block the little IR window on the front. I just tested on mine, and I had to block the entire "glass" area on the front of my box to do it, but it did work.

Now as for recording 2 programs and watching a third live. You were missinformed or miss understood. You can only do 2 live at the same time and then watch a third recorded. But the box only has two tuners so therefore can only do 2 live programs.

I have electric tape completely blocking the IR window and most signals are blocked. I have the stb in a closed cabinet and even tried putting it in a bag, with black tape on the IR window, and closed the door. signals still got through. I took the bag off in fear that the box would overheat. It is a puzzle and guess I should be impressed by the strength of the signal.

Wow, that's some serious recording.

It's not every night but during the regular season there were several nights I wanted to watch 4 shows that were on at the same time. I thought if I start now I may have a working set up by fall.

Have you seen this post?

Its for a system that you will be able to buy (not yet available but should be shortly and it may be a little expensive but it may be worth it) that will allow you to record up to 4 programs at the same time.

This is my next geek project I think I'm going to tackle.

4 channels at once would be incredible. Thanks, I'll have to pass this on to my friend who works on my computer.
