Could you possibly post what brand/make/model of your TV, VCR, and which DVR you have?

jumping into this thread to ask a [dumb?] question.   It seems most of these posts refer to recording from a DVR to a vcr (or dvd recorder).  My question is:

Is it not possible to record FROM a hi def set top box (that is NOT a dvr) TO a vcr/dvd recorder/combo ?  And if so... how?   My recorder is a newer model that is upconverting and has a built in tuner.   But I was not able to get it to work no matter what I tried (though frankly, I think I was trying to go from STB through VCR to TV).

Side question, is timed recording possible, or are we back to the 20th century where you need to watch and record at the same time ??

I am so frustrated, that I put my new vcr/dvd combo right back into the box.
