No "Recorder Status" available for e-SATA DVR Extender.

I hooked up a WD 1TB storage device.  I followed all of the instructions.  The device was recognized by the DVR, I accepted it and rebooted the DVR.

The FAQ sectrion says to Press "Menu" on the  remote control, select "DVR" and then press "Recorder Status". The hard drive inside the DVR is designated as "Local Drive" and the eSATA device plugged into the DVR is designated as "External Drive". Use the left and right arrow buttons on the remote control to toggle between each drive to check updated usage and capacity information.

The problem is that I am not seing the "Recorder Status" option.

The FAQ also states "Once connected, all recordings will automatically record on your eSATA device until it is full or disconnected from the DVR. Once your eSATA device has reached recording capacity, additional programs will record to the hard drive of your DVR".

I asked a "Live Agent" about this and she told me that the DVR fills up first and then the SATA drive records.  When the SATA drive starts recording, I should then be able to see the "Recording Status".

Which one is correct?  DVR fills up first or the SATA device.

I would still expect to be able to the status of both drives.

I spoke with Verizon tech support person who suggested that I disconnect the esata hard driver from the DVR and then reconnect.  Up popped a window indicating that the dvr recognized the external hard drive.

Just a shot in the dark .. Does the eSATA drive need to be formatted to a specific file system? Could you also please list the make & model of the DVR?

The DVR is a Motorola HD-DVR QIP 7216.  According to the FAQ, the e-SATA drive only needs formatting if it had been used with another DVR or computer.
