Can someone please explain to me why I apparently receive two differently formatted signals on different channels? For example, I tune to some channels, and it seems to be in wide screen format, leaving a black bar top and bottom about 1.5 inches in width. However, when I switch to other channels, I get a full screen picture, but the picture seems slightly distorted. The people are displayed as taller and thinner than normal. I can get the set to display a full picure, but If I change the TV menu or a particular set, it then cuts off the top of their heads on close-up's. The only television set that I get normal reception on all channels is the one connected to the DVR, All my of remote STB's have this problem.
I have been through the help desk. I have talked to a couple of people in India (or some other middle eastern couintry), but all they can do is "reboot." Nothing changes. They want to send out a service rep, but I maintain there is not a problem with the set-up, the problem is with the signal my sets are receiving.
I understand that some pictures are formatted differently, and I have no problem with ads that are filmed in a different format, but I simply don't understand why I don't get the same kind of signal on all stations.

Can you post what channels you are having problems with, what STBs you have and how they are connected to your tv.

To the OP:
Does this happen on SD and HD channels or just one?
Check the video settings on the stb's.
Menu > Audio & Video > Video Settings > Check SD override. Is it off of set to stretch?
Whatever it is set to choose the other one, but sounds like its set to stretch.

The picture quality is very soft with little detail in HD. I am not sure why, but cable has a sharper picture.
