If you have a fios 2 button remote then you can't. You can only do it on the 4 button remotes which you have to buy and even then the codes that are pre programmed in it might not work if your player is newer. You can also invest your money better and get a Logitech Harmony remote.

Thanks. However, I don't know whether my Fios remote is 2 or 4 buttons - never heard about. My problem is the A/V button is not responding.

You need to learn how to program your remote to control your TV and DVD player.  This page provides the info:

http://www.verizon.com/Support/Residential/tv/fiostv/remote+controls/setup/setup.htm

If your FiOS remote can't do what you want, do as SinCara suggested and get a Logitech Harmony remote.  Refurbs can be found for a decent price on eBay.

Good Luck.

The very top of the remote will either have 2 buttons that say tv and stb or 4 that say tv, stb, dvd, and aux.

Unless you bought the 4 button remote yourself or had fios installed years ago you have the 2 button as Verizon stopped giving the 4 button remote to customers years ago.

You mentioned the A/V button at the bottom of the remote. That is for your tv's input, not a dvd player. Are you saying you need your remote to pull up your tv's inputs to switch to your dvd player input? The a/v button is useless for a dvd player since you cant actually operate a dvd player with the 2 button remote.
