So there is heavy pixelation and sometimes you can't even hear a solitary sentance being said....it freezes and gets stuck.  So is the only fix the reset the STB? Because if that is the solution, it is bad as well.

Not normal.

A bad stb box, bad wiring or occasionally problems with the ONT.

First try loosing the connections and then tightening.

Note if your TV handles Digital signals, try connecting the wire directly to the TV and seeing what you get for your locals (they're not encrypted so some sets can display them).

It could be a bad coax, splitter, STB or too many splits.  Any of these issues can cause pixelation on the TV.

Every channel? Certain channels?

Do you have more than 1 STB? If so, does it happen on all?
