I've been watching local HD channels and it hasn't happened once. So its definately isolated to the non-HD channels. Unfortunatly, I don't have HD in my bedroom or my kids rooms.
I just sent an email into the TV Q&A mailbag as well. Hopefully, more people around Pittsburgh will do the same to get this as much attention as possible. I don't have HD at all so I guess I'm screwed until this gets fixed, if it ever does! Luckily, the Steeler game was on ESPN last night so i didn't have to deal with it. When they're on CBS, FOX, or NBC, I always get the sound cut outs and occasional pixelation in the screen as well.

I think I spoke too soon. It hasn't happened on anything I watched for the past week or so, now its starting up again. This time its on Fox Sports Pittsburgh - HD!!!
This is the first time its happened on an HD channel. I'm getting a lot of pixalation too.
I really wish Verizon will acknowledge that there is a problem. I'm getting disgusted.

Maybe it's just an HD problem now? I was watching the Pens game from the 2nd period on and it never happened to me but I don't have HD. It's never really happened to me on FSN like it has on the lower local channels though (ABC, NBC, etc.). I don't think it happened to me this past Sunday watching the Steeler game either, which is the first time since I've had FIOS that it hasn't happened during a Steeler game on one of the major networks. If it wasn't for the NFL Network, I'd probably go back to Comcast, as much as I hate to say that. FIOS really hasn't impressed me all that much since I've had it. Maybe that will change, but that's how I feel as of now.

I use a roof antenna and my sound is cutting out on my Hi-Def Tv during FOX NFL football games....there may be a correlation...

Same issues here in Oregon. Seems to be mostly local channels, but occasionally seeing it on MTV as well.
Odd that when I wandered through the confusing maze that is the FiOS support/repair area, I eventually came upon a page that said that based on my (Verizon FiOS land-line) phone number, I am part of an "outage" that is expected to be fixed by 9PM tomorrow. Of course, this is while I'm sitting here watching TV...
Could this be the same "hub fix" mentioned?

Yup, using component. How would the cable choice cause audio (and occasionally picture) drop-outs on certain channels?
