Quantum Don't Need No Enhancements

Just received this message from our leaders:

Dear Valued Verizon Customer,

We originally communicated (see attached) that your Interactive Media Guide would be updated on Wednesday, January 14, 2015; however, these enhancements have been delayed and will  take place within the next few weeks. Thank you for choosing Verizon as your entertainment provider and we apologize for the delay.

Sincerely,

Your Verizon Team

From what I've been reading about these "enhancements," my guess is that all of the problems reported by regular FIOS users carried over to the Quantum universe and they don't know how to fix them.  My reaction is, Verizon, DON'T APOLOGIZE!!  Just fix the existing problems with the current Quantum software and leave us alone.  The last thing we need is to be beta testing another half baked user interface.  I'd rather put up with having to cold boot my box every few weeks when thing "slow down." (i.e. the laggy remote and DVR playback)

SinCara,

You obviously  have some insight the rest of us may not.  Have you seen the new UI?  The original message lists three new enhancements.  Other than the black background, I find no value in them.  What would an average Quantum user find useful in the new UI?  Thanks.

The new IMG is the same new guide update that the older non Quantum boxes have and have had for awhile now.

There are other features besides a black background.

There is a thread on dslreports.com here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29568520-Guide-IMG-1.9.7

that might answer a lot of the questions you might have.

There's also another thread for Quantum users about new updates here http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29526969-IMG-New-Quantum-Build-2.18.2-9-11-14-

There was a big bug with the new IMG that was caught just before the release of it so we should all be lucky it was caught before they rolled it out. There are people testing the new IMG out and have been for a few weeks which is why they pulled the plug on it. People have to understand that unlike the old boxes which use Java and what not for the IMG's Quantum uses HTML5 so it's a totally different way of programming it and is more complex. The new IMG does fix old bugs people are seeing, but the new bug luckily got caught in time for them to work on it.

Kudos SinCara.

One thing that caught my eye is this Pseudo “Start over” functionality. When you tune a movie half way through and that movie is carried in OnDemand (free) you will be able to hit the play button and start over.  Will that work in Quantum when that program is buffered on one of the tuners?  My MO is that I turn on the cable news which is usually tuned in on one of the boxes and rewind to the beginning.  Sometimes that takes forever so I've taken to recording every show all day long so whenever I happen to sit down for 10 mins, I can always jump to the top of the hour by just playing that latest  show from the DVR.  Of course it would be more efficient to jsut be able jump to the beginning in one button  press and not have all those shows sitting on my hard drive.

I never upgrade for any product or service until it is known that most of the buggs are resolved and customers are happy.  I am tired of being an unpaid employee whenever I need to call Verizon's or Sprint's helpdesk.  I only have the standard box [it used to be free], but that is all I need.  Once I get employed, I will change many things!

This explains a lot of why I am having so much lag on my Media Server.  Since they are using HTML5 then the must be using Javascript too. (I see the embeded RomPager Advanced server in use too.) JAVA is compiled (well some what) while HTML and javascript are interpreted. This is default slower. Plus I guess they may have put the cheapest processor in the Media Server? I wish I had kept the Legacy System. It performed much better once all the bugs had been worked out.

having the same issues with quantum, is too laggy. Internet speeds I have 25/25 but at nights it gets impacted not sure why, maybe the media boxes are doing backups dont know. goes down to 7/10. Called verizon they sent someone during the day but the problem happens at night. They mentioned they will escalate to network team and will call back that never happened!
