I have an HD TV, QIP7100 DVR, running through HDMI, quite often when the channel is changed from SD to HD or sometimes from the guide to an HD channel the screen flips into a negotiating mode and then goes blank but I still get audio. The troubleshooting guide for the STB says to turn off and on again which does fix the problem but it is getting annoying and frequent. Any suggestions??
You're correct that your TV and the STB are renegotiating the HDMI signal. To avoid this, I set the STB for the SD Override to "off" so the STB always outputs 1080i (or 720p if you prefer). This way, even when you view an SD 480i channel, it is sent to the TV as a 1080i (or 720p) signal and no re-negotiation is required. The setting is set under Menu>Settings>Video Setting>SD Override. Note that occasionally this setting reverts back to 480i (I think it's a bug) but setting it back to off works for me.
