I was told there is a feature is the set top boxes that would allow me to send pictures/video from my laptop to my TV wirelessly. What are the steps of accomplishing that?

Go to verizon central, do a search for "Media Manager", download and install.

Idownloaded  and installed the software and still cannot figure out how to send pictures to the set top box. Is there a way to send streaming media to the set top box, like when I view a movie from a web, is there a way to send it to my TV?

You need to make sure you have a Home Media DVR (19.99 a month), not just a normal DVR (15.99 a month). You can only stream music and pictures from your PC, not video. Video is in beta testing phase right now, and we all hope will be out soon. But it does not support divx, or xvid, and will only stream from youtube.com below is some info about the software and setup.

Click here to download the Home Media DVR set-up guide.

The easy way to play your media from your PC, on your TV   Media Manager allows you to access photos and music stored on your computer through your DVR directly to your television. Invite family and friends over for movie night or music-fest right in your own living room. Create playlists, slide shows and more! Features :
  • Broadcast music and photos stored on your PC right through your TV
  • Easy to use wizard helps you create playlists and slide shows using your PC
  • Access photos and music from any PC connected on your Verizon home network

I am not complaining at all about Verizon trying to add media mang to their system. But I do have one question if someone could answer it. The video streaming that they are working on is only going to be good for youtube videos? So you have to upload all of your vidoes to youtube first? Sounds crazy when there are video media managers in place as we speak with the XBOX 360. I understand that certain video types will not be able to played but it sounds crazy to me. But I guess any step is a step that is in the right direction.

No you have it wrong, there are 2 different types of streaming. Web streaming, only youtube now in beta, more may come later. And PC streams, all kinds of video on your PC like, mpeg, wma, etc. All types but xvid and divx. This is all hearsay, I am not in the beta for that just bits I have picked that has been released about the beta.

I always get confused by the term streaming...I want to be able to listen and watch through my tv  via MM as I play a video that I have on my pc,

( not one I have downloaded and saved on my computer, but one that I clicked on and is playing now)... Is this possible now, or will it be possible soon? hope this is clear...Thanks

The term stream just means you are playing the media file from a different computer via network, intranet, or internet (non local file). As of now there is no video streaming only music and image. Video streaming will be out in the next release and it is still in private closed beta testing.

Although I'm not sure what you mean when you say that you "click" on a video (are you "clicking" on an internet video on Comedy Central or NBC.com or something, or are you "clicking" on a video file you have on your computer, like a divx, or mkv, or avi file?)

In any event, the "streaming" that is included in the Media Manager beta test includes TWO types of streaming.

(a) Similar to the Audio tab, there is a Video tab that allows you to add to the Media Manager library video ALREADY RESIDENT ON YOUR COMPUTER (AVI, MPEG, WMV, etc, files.  some formats, like divx are NOT supported).

You can then play these videos from your MR-DVR on your TV/Audio system, exactly the way you can play Audio files with your MR-DVR.  This has nothing to do with the internet.  So you are "streaming" video from your computer to the MR-DVR;

(b) You can directly stream videos from YouTube, accessing Search functions and favorites, etc. from your MR-DVR.

So this is "streaming" from the internet (YouTube) to your MR-DVR.

NO OTHER INTERNET VIDEO can be accessed using this version of Media Manager, ONLY YOUTUBE.

So if you "click" on ANYTHING on your computer (either on the internet or a file on your computer), it will NOT "stream" via Media Manager to your MR-DVR for display on your HT system.
