We just switched to Verizon FIOS. We have an older model Toshiba TV, Model 40FT2U and just bought an LG sound bar (SK 1) since our Insignia sound bar did not work with Verizon FIOS. There is no place for the optical plug in our TV so we bought a special cable for the sound bar so we could plug the red and white plugs in our TV. The sound bar still does not work. Verizon did not help us when we called and said to write to the forum, so please help us figure this out. Our old cable company had no issues with the sound bar, so we're a bit frustrated. We are also older users so many of this vocabulary is foreign to us. Thank you!!!

Ok, the red and white jacks on that model of TV are inputs, not outputs like you need to go to soundbar. How was the old soundbar hooked up? Directly to cable box, or did you use the orange Jack from the TV to the soundbar? The orange jack is the only audio output on your TV, it is a digital out so your special cable must be digital audio to analog audio converter, or coax digital audio to optical audio . Also the only analog input on the LG soundbar is a 3.5 mm connector, so you will also need an RCA to 3.5mm adaptor for that to work. The easiest way for you to get sound is to use the optical out from the FIOS box to the optical in of the soundbar. You then use the volume control for the cable box to control level, with TV speakers turned off. Or you could use the analog (red and white) outputs from the cable box to the 3.5mm input on the soundbar. 3.5 mm jack is a small headphone jack if you don't know what I mean. I forgot to ask which FIOS box you have, but the above will work with any box , except the FIOS ONE mini, where you'll have to use analog(red and white) puts to the 3.5 mm jack.

If you don't have an optical spdif output on your TV. Connect the HDMI cable from the FiOS set-top box to the TV and if your TV has a red/white audio out then connect that to the soundbar. This way if you have Blu ray player or other device connected to the other HDMI port then that device can also utilize the soundbar.
If you don't have an audio output then just connect the soundbar directly to the FiOS box using the red/white audio cable that you have. Also can you also post the type of FiOS set-top box and soundbar that you have? Any info will be helpful to better direct you with setting it up correctly.
