I do believe in being green.

I am not sure about having all my eggs in one basket. Now if any DVR could act as a server, (multi Hub), and the small boxes could have a single tuner, with access to the DVRs, That would be good enough for me. We need a smaller single tuner STB about the size of the DCT-700. MOCA would need a big change to handle the throughput for the STBs, in addition we would need more than two tuners on the server, and a bigger faster dirve or drives. 5 years from now maybe?

I physically bring my own garbage like carboard, plastic and glass bottles and containers to public works for recycling because the town never picks up any recyclables from my complex and I really don't feel right about throwing it all into the dumpster with all my other trash.  I find that a lot of people really don't give a darn about recycling because what difference can one person really make but if you multiply that many people, the impact is greater than we often think.   I am definitely for recycling and for anything that's going to reduce our impact on the environment.  I have now started paying my bills on line and gotten rid of receiving paper statements in the mail for the same reasons.

So anything that's more energy efficient is fine by me.

Pretty cool. Good job Verizon. Keep it up. 🙂

A couple general thoughts.

I think Verizon is doing a very good job keeping up with technology and is implementing it well. I know a lot of people may not agree with me on that but they also have to understand the enormity of Verizon's network. I want the latest and greatest as soon as it comes out too but that is not always feasible on the scale that Verizon has to contend with.

We have 3 primary TV's that all have DVR's. I tired to use 1 multi-room DVR but it was much easier to allow each of the 3 TV's to have it's own DVR. As a side note, we have 7 STB's in the house.

The concept of having a FiOS server in the house is very appealing to both the consumer and Verizon. Less equipment equals less cost for both assuming Verizon would pass along savings to the consumer. I would hope that Verizon continues to allow their users to do things like add more storage space, etc. This allows Verizon to provide the basic equipment and the user can customize it for their needs. Once again, a cost savings for Verizon and flexibility for the user.

Everyone will eventually have a media server in the house. It's funny to me to see different companies competing for the privilege. My TV is DLNA certified, Fios has their own solution, but my Sony PS3 is winning those honors.  I think Verizon has a really good opportunity here if they design the system hardware and software right. Hint for Verizon: You might want to look at what Sony has done with the PS3.

Over at Zatznotfunny, it looks like this "server" aspect may have 6 tuners and a 1TB drive. Is Verizon OEM'ing the InfiniTV6?

This looks a lot like Windows Media Center/Extender model that I am running at home currently, with 4 tuners and 4 TB of storage.

Engadget is saying that this is going to be ready in last 2012, by then 1TB will be obsolete, but how much "cloud" storage will Verizon offer us and for how much?

Also, with Verizon's history of software, do we really expect version 1.0 to be ready for prime time?

I just want a Windows Media Center plug in for Verizon VOD/PPV.

At the same time however, the way other new customers here have been given the old 6416 DVR box is pretty bad, as I have stated in other posts.  This is my opinion only but enormity is really no excuse when it comes to that, I'm sorry to say.

I'm with you on that too.  In my house, I only need one STB.  I keep everything as simple as possible.  Isn't life complicated enough?  I don't add any extra gadgets that I don't need and I'm not into iphones or ipods or texting.  My whole setup is still pretty traditional overall with upgrades made as necessary.  That's my personality.  lol...I don't record or store anything and whenever I want a movie to add to my DVD collection, I need to buy it from a store or order it on line, without the commercials.

I usually a stubborn mule when it comes to change but I do adapt eventually when it's necessary.
