I have an HD DVR that I would like to retrieve some recorded TV shows and play them back on a computer or DVD player. When I had Tivo, I could directly retrieve recorded content via the network. Can I connect a recording device to the front A/V connectors or do I have to connect to the ones on the back of the DVR. Also I would like to be able to play the video on a PV and should be in .avi or .mpeg format. Will I have to convert the video after I record it? What format is the video stored in and can it be retrieved? I appreciate any info on transferring recorded video so that it can be played on a PC or DVD player.

You may want to put the Tivo back in and throw the Verizon DVR into nearest trashbin then. There are a number of folks, myself included, that will be going to the extra expense of replacing the useless DVR 'package' provided by Verizon with a real package such as Tivo hardware that actually provides customers with useful features such as those described.
