How can a 4:3 SD channel be stretched on a 4:3 TV? Do you have black bars on the sides that squeeze the 4:3 screen into a smaller raster?
If you're viewing on a HD display, the Verizon HD STB/DVR gives you the following options for all SD channels: (a) display as 4:3 and (b) stretch to 16:9 widescreen.
We are talking about the SD channels. For some reason, 4 of the SD channels in our area are being sent widescreen SD feeds. These widescreen feeds are being squeezed onto our 4:3 screens. There are black bars on the sides of 4:3 shows, no black bars on 16:9 shows. In both cases, everyone looks skinny and tall.
Thanks for the clear description. That makes sense.

I am also located in So. CA and have been experiencing this problem for several days (on the same 4 standard local channels with a standard STB on 4:3 TVs). On the local Channel 2 newcast, the words "HIGH DEF" appear vertically on the bars on the side of the screen.
