I keep getting the message "to continue watching tv, press the menu key. If you do not press menu, your tv will turn off". Sure enough, when I don't press menu, the tv turns itself off. This is SO annoying, anyone know why this happens??

Most likely your sleep timer was enabled during the last firmware update. It happened to a lot of us.
Go into your dvr/stb menu
Go down to settings
Go down to Set-Top Box
Over to Sleep Timer
Choose Never

#1 How often does this happen?
For example everytime you turn it on.
#2 How is your TV connected to the device provided by Verizon? This could mean the DVR/STB.
