You can't, at least, not without a separate box.

VCRs are analog recorders which feature an analog tuner for analog channels.  Verizon FiOS does not have any analog channnels.  With FiOS, all channels are digital, so you need a digital recorder to record channels directly.  With Verizon FiOS, an analog recorder like a VCR is only useful to record the A/V output of another set-top box.

You should seriously consider the FiOS DVR.  The DVR is the modern day replacement for the VCR.   It replaces the Verizon set-top box and allows you to watch one channel while you record another, and it can record two different channels simultaneously.  All recordings are saved to the built-in hard drive.

To save a program to a VCR for a friend or relative that does not have a DVD player, you would connect the
the composite and stereo audio connections (yellow/red/white cables) on your STB or DVR to the appropriate input on the VCR.  You'd play the program you want on the DVR and then press record on the VCR.
